Last updated: 2026-04-16·2 min read

Insert inline citations using three methods: typing @, clicking the citation
button in the toolbar, or selecting text and using the toolbar. Citations are
automatically formatted in your chosen style, and cited papers are added to
the references list.

How to insert inline citations

There are three ways to insert citations.

Method 1: Type @

  1. Type @ at the position where you want to insert a citation in the editor.
  2. When the paper search box appears, enter a paper title or keyword.
  3. Select the desired paper from the search results, and the citation is automatically inserted.

Method 2: Citation button in the top toolbar

  1. Place your cursor at the position where you want to insert a citation.
  2. Click the @ Citation button in the top toolbar.
  3. Select the desired paper from the search box, and the citation is inserted at the cursor position.

Method 3: Drag text and use the toolbar

  1. Drag to select text in the editor.
  2. Click the citation button in the toolbar that appears.
  3. Select the desired paper from the search box, and the citation is inserted.

How are inserted citations displayed?

Inserted citations are automatically formatted according to the chosen citation style (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.). To change the citation format, see the Citation Format Guide.

The paper is also automatically added to the references list at the bottom of the document.
