About the Lab
Professor Chang Ho Shin's research lab specializes in experimental nuclear physics and clinical medical diagnostics, with a strong focus on nuclear reaction mechanisms and their applications in medical imaging and disease diagnosis. The lab investigates proton and heavy-ion induced reactions on various nuclei to understand nuclear structure and collective excitations, particularly through (³He,p) and (t,p) reactions. In parallel, the lab develops advanced molecular diagnostic techniques, such as multiplex PCR for rapid detection of herpesviruses, and evaluates surgical and radiographic methods for orthopedic conditions like tibial eminence fractures and hip dysplasia. These interdisciplinary efforts bridge fundamental nuclear physics with translational medical research.

The ($^{3}\mathrm{He},p$) reactions on $^{46}\mathrm{Ti}$, $^{48}\mathrm{Ti}$, $^{52}\mathrm{Cr}$, $^{54}\mathrm{Fe}$, $^{56}\mathrm{Fe}$, $^{58}\mathrm{Ni}$, and $^{60}\mathrm{Ni}$ leading to the ${0}^{+}$ analog states were studied and compared with the ($t,p$) reactions on the same target nuclei and with the predictions of the pairing vibration model.
Arthroscopically assisted reduction and fixation with cannulated screws is an effective and safe surgical option for treating tibial eminence fracture with few complications.
Abstract Background The acetabular index and center-edge angle are widely used radiographic parameters. However, the exact landmarks for measuring these parameters are not clearly defined. Although their measurement is straightforward when the lateral osseous margin of the acetabular roof coincides with the lateral end of the acetabular sourcil, where these two landmarks disagree, recommendations have differed about which landmark should be used. Using a radiographic parameter with high reliabil
The development of a multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method for rapid and accurate detection and typing of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), and type-2 (HSV-2), cytomegalovirus (CMV) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is very important for clinical diagnosis to allow the deliver of therapy as early as possible. Large scale amplifications by multiplex PCR of viral DNA can lower the cost and time for viral diagnosis. In this study, therefore sensitive quadruplex PCR was achieved by optimizi

This study of Koreans who were more than sixty-five years of age showed that the prevalence of carpal tunnel syndrome is similar in patients with and those without radiographic findings of basal joint arthritis of the thumb. We found no correlation between the electrophysiological severity of carpal tunnel syndrome and the severity of basal joint arthritis.
Screw medial hemi-epiphysiodesis can effectively correct caput valgum associated with DDH. However, this technique remains coxa brevis and does not seem to significantly affect acetabular morphology or reduce subluxation.
Background: The detection and identification of pathogenic microorganisms are essential for the treatment of osteoarticular infection. However, obtaining a sufficient amount of specimen from pediatric patients is often difficult. Herein, we aimed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the blood culture bottle (BCB) system in pediatric osteoarticular infections. We hypothesized that our BCB culture method is superior to the conventional swab and tissue culture methods in terms of required specimen s

Isolated hemihyperplasia and hemihypoplasia can occur as a spectrum of BWS and SRS. Although the accurate differentiation between isolated hemihyperplasia and isolated hemihypoplasia is important in tumor surveillance planning, it is often difficult to clinically differentiate these two diseases without epigenetic tests. Epigenetic tests may play a role in the prediction of LLD, which would aid in treatment planning.
Abstract Metal-ferroelectric-insulator-semiconductor (MFIS) structures including an Al2O3 insulator layer and a SBT ferroelectric film are fabricated with their optimum thicknesses extracted by computer simulation, and then electrical properties of MFIS structures are investigated. In Pt/Al2O3/Si structure, no hysteresis and low leakage current of 7.5 × 10−9A/cm2 have been observed. The MFIS structure, Pt/SBT/Al2O3/Si, shows a memory window width of 1.2 V at an operation voltage of 5 V and a gat
Brugada syndrome, an autosomal dominantly inherited form of ventricular fibrillation, is characterized by ST- segment elevation in leads V1-3 and right bundle-branch block on surface electrocardiogram. It is caused by mutations in the cardiac sodium channel gene, SCN5A, and to the best of our knowledge, there has been no report of this mutation in Korea. Three members of a family were heterozygous for a G to T substitution at the nucleotide position 5851 in exon 28 of the SCN5A gene. This nucleo
PTS was not found to be a risk factor for pediatric TSF in female or male patients in this study.
