Professor Chang Min Lee's research lab focuses on interstitial lung diseases, particularly idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), with an emphasis on understanding genetic susceptibility and the role of comorbid conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The lab investigates the pathogenic mechanisms of pulmonary fibrosis using murine models, identifying key genetic modifiers like laminin α1 (Lama1). In addition, the lab is actively involved in gastrointestinal oncology, specializing in early gastric cancer and submucosal tumors, with a focus on minimally invasive surgical techniques, sentinel node mapping, and hybrid endo-laparoscopic approaches for improved outcomes.

In Korean patients with IPF, the prevalence of GERD was lower than in other countries. PPI use for at least 4 months may have a protective effect against IPF-related mortality.
