Professor Euni Lee's research lab focuses on pharmaceutical outcomes, health disparities, and medication safety with an emphasis on vulnerable populations such as pregnant women, children, and African American adults. The lab investigates the impact of eHealth literacy on health behaviors, off-label prescribing patterns, and the risks associated with specific medications, including hepatotoxicity from nimesulide and high-risk drugs during pregnancy. Using large-scale national datasets, the lab aims to inform public health policy and improve patient safety through evidence-based research.

Our results of a positive correlation between eHealth literacy and health-related behaviors indicate that eHealth literacy can be a mediator in the process by which health-related information leads to changes in health-related behaviors. Larger-scale studies with stronger validity are needed to evaluate the detailed relationship between the proficiency level of eHealth literacy and health-related behaviors for health promotion in the future.
This study shows considerable medication use among pregnant women. The prevalence of visits with FDA pregnancy category D/X drugs was moderate, but still indicates exposure to high-risk medications.
Our study findings support previous reports of an increased risk for hepatotoxicity with nimesulide use and add to existing literature by providing risk estimates for nimesulide-associated hepatotoxicity. As the limited number of studies with primarily observational study designs were included in the analysis, more studies are needed to further describe the effects of dose and length of treatment on the risk for hepatotoxicity.
The study observed a very high prevalence of off-label antidepressant prescribing patterns among children and adolescents in US ambulatory care settings. Coordinated efforts should be placed to evaluate the potential reasons and ramifications of antidepressant off-label prescribing to guard patients' safety.
Our findings indicated that three out of four patients expressed satisfaction toward pharmacy services. Middle to low family incomes, fair perception of health, and employee insured individuals were significant predictors of patient satisfaction with pharmacy services.
Background. Although there is a reported association between lifestyle factors and metabolic syndrome, very few studies have used national level data restricted to the African Americans (AAs) in the United States (US). Methods. A cross-sectional evaluation was conducted using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 1999 to 2006 including men and nonpregnant women of 20 years or older. Multiple logistic regression models were constructed to evaluate the association between lifes
Cephalosporins that contain the N-methylthiotetrazole side chain (NMTT-cephalosporin) have been reported to be associated with coagulation-related adverse events; however, a comprehensive evaluation regarding the association is lacking. A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to assess the safety profile of NMTT-cephalosporins with respect to hypoprothrombinemia and bleeding. The MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane, and RISS databases were systematically searched for clinical studies up to Oc
Findings from the current study show a positive association between periodontitis and current asthma condition. In addition, patients taking scheduled antiasthmatic medications are less likely to be diagnosed with periodontitis. Due to limitations of study design and available data from the national survey, well-designed follow-up studies are needed to confirm these findings.
Regression-discontinuity design is a useful quasi-experimental methodology that has significant advantages in internal validity compared to other pre-post designs when assessing interventions in which subjects' assignment is based on cutoff scores for a critical variable.
Background and Objectives: The current study was performed to evaluate the prevalence of periodontitis and to examine the association between reduced pulmonary function and periodontitis using Sixth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) in 2014. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional evaluation was conducted to estimate the prevalence of periodontitis and to examine the association between periodontitis and reduced pulmonary
Women are particularly at risk for osteoporosis as they experience menopause, with estimates of 20 million women with osteoporosis or osteopenia. Despite the high prevalence, our study showed that only 10% of all visits were associated with 1 or more AOM therapy prescribed, provided, or continued in 1997 and 1998. These data also suggest that women with Medicaid or self-pay status were less likely to receive AOMs than women with other forms of insurance. The status of AOM therapy and lifestyle c
Patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures and validated instruments have become integral in assessing the quality of healthcare delivery, including pharmaceutical care services. The Pharmacy Services Questionnaire (PSQ) measures patient satisfaction with pharmaceutical care. In this study, we developed a modified Korean version of the PSQ (PSQ-K) and evaluated its validity and reliability. The PSQ-K was developed using a strict translation and cultural-adaptation procedure. A validation study was
The WHI study influenced patterns of use of all types of AOM, decreasing estrogen and increasing nonestrogen use among postmenopausal women in a Medicaid program. These results suggest that the WHI study affected patterns of use of bone protective pharmacotherapy, with a shift in bone protection therapy use from estrogen to nonestrogen AOMs.
Findings indicate that obesity was not a barrier but rather an assisting factor to CRC screening among Medicare beneficiaries. Future studies are needed to evaluate physicians' ordering of screening tests compared to screening claims among Medicare beneficiaries to better understand patterns of patients' and doctors' adherence to national CRC screening guidelines.
