Professor Hideki Endo's research lab focuses on translational and clinical research in surgical outcomes, intensive care medicine, and conservation biology. The lab investigates quality improvement in laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery, develops risk prediction models for critical care patients—particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic—and explores the complex ecological and socio-cultural dynamics between humans and endangered species such as the Komodo dragon in Indonesia. The lab integrates clinical data science with molecular biology, including protein interactions in cell cycle regulation, to address both healthcare quality and biodiversity conservation challenges.
Figures are computed from collected data and may differ slightly.
ESSQS certification did not affect postoperative mortality following LDG and LLAR, but annual experience of laparoscopic surgery was associated with it. ESSQS certification may contribute to favorable outcomes regarding anastomotic leakage following LDG and LLAR.
Terf/TRIM17 is a tripartite motif protein that has been originally isolated from testis. Terf has been characterized to exhibit an E3 ubiquitin ligase activity and to undergo self-ubiquitination. The cellular function of terf and its substrates, however, remain elusive. In the present study, we performed a yeast two-hybrid screening assay using terf as bait and identified a positive clone coding for ZW10 interacting protein (ZWINT), a known component of the kinetochore complex required for the m
Model 3 showed good performance and can be adopted as the JROD model for monitoring quality of care in an ICU, although further investigation of the clinical validity of outlier detection is required. This update method may also be useful in other settings.
Since the start of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, it has remained unknown whether conventional risk prediction tools used in intensive care units are applicable to patients with COVID-19. Therefore, we assessed the performance of established risk prediction models using the Japanese Intensive Care database. Discrimination and calibration of the models were poor. Revised risk prediction models are needed to assess the clinical severity of COVID-19 patients and monitor healthcar
