Professor Hyeoneui Kim's research lab focuses on health informatics, human-computer interaction, and ethical AI, with a strong emphasis on improving patient-centered care through technology. The lab investigates readability and usability of health information, develops patient-informed tools such as pictographs and tiered consent systems, and explores the psychological and organizational factors affecting workforce well-being, including burnout and presenteeism. A key focus is on creating explainable AI (XAI) frameworks that are both standardized and stakeholder-sensitive, ensuring transparency and trust in AI applications across healthcare and organizational settings.

XAI research should address the lack of a comprehensive and agreed-upon framework for explaining XAI and standardized approaches for evaluating the effectiveness of the explanation that XAI provides to diverse AI stakeholders.
