Rare studies have focused on how and why people use social networking sites (SNSs) utilizing individual-level variables such as self-construals and social/nonsocial motivations. This study proposes that the self-construal construct provides a good instrument for measuring the relationship between people's understanding of self as a predictor of social computing (Facebook use) and satisfaction. A survey was conducted with students from a large western U.S. university. Results indicate that interd
Young climate activist Greta Thunberg was Time magazine’s Person of the Year for 2019. In this study, the authors examine the role of social media in Thunberg’s rise to prominence by investigating Twitter communications over 14 months, analyzing tweet contents and user profiles. The findings reveal that
This paper offers an overview of the status of and emerging trends in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) research through a bibliometric approach using CiteSpace. In particular, our study aimed to elucidate the overall intellectual structure of the environmental, social, and governance academic field. Due to the rapid diffusion of social mobile payment (SMP), the current research explores the post-adoption behavior of SMP users. It proposes a research model to determine the core predictors of users’ continuance intentions to use SMPs. Through the analysis of survey data from South Korea, it indicates that satisfaction strongly and positively affects users’ continuance intentions. Moreover, satisfaction is influenced by perceived usefulness (PU), security, and enjoyment. Interestingly, althoug

This study aims to understand the research status and development trend of crisis and risk communication research (CRCR) through a visual analysis in CiteSpace, thereby providing a more comprehensive perspective for future research agenda. First, we retrieved published papers from Web of Science (1986-2020) and Scopus (1979-2020) with a title search. Subsequently, we analyzed the main research strengths and main topics of CRCR from two dimensions: co-authorship network and co-citation network. W
This study investigates the interorganizational communication structures of the academic, private, and public sectors of nanotechnology in cyberspace. Few studies have examined systematically the ways these three major sectors contribute to the social construction of nanotechnology. The current study examines hyperlink and semantic networks of nanotechnology websites. Results show that academic websites revealed specific aspects of nanotechnology such as the uses and scales (units) of nanotechno
The study describes the structure of international conflict with the tools of network analysis to enhance the understanding of multilateral conflict-communication relations and to predict the conflict structure with existing international relations theories (liberal and realist) plus global communication variables. Using data obtained from the Correlates of War Project (http://cow2.la.psu.edu/), the structure of international conflict is described for the period 1993–2001 for 145 nations. The re
Considerations of two facts, (1) Canadian media's strong dependence on the U.S. media, and (2) salient differences in foreign policy between the two nations (multilateralism— Canada, unilateralism—the U.S.) raise the question of whether Canadian major media's coverage reflects this difference. With content analysis and semantic network analysis of The New York Times (U.S.) and Globe and Mail (Canada) on the issue of Sudan's Darfur conflict, the authors found that (1) both newspapers focused on th
