Professor Jerald D. Kralik's research lab investigates the cognitive and neural mechanisms underlying decision-making, inhibitory control, and metacognition in primates and other vertebrates. The lab focuses on understanding how animals—particularly tamarins and macaques—manage prepotent responses, generalize learning across novel situations, and apply abstract rules in complex environments. Using behavioral experiments and comparative cognition approaches, the lab explores the evolutionary roots of executive function and the architecture of nervous systems, with a particular emphasis on how cognitive heuristics and neural circuitry shape adaptive behavior.
