About the Lab
Professor Jin Gu Lee's research lab specializes in translational and clinical research in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery, with a focus on understanding the biological mechanisms underlying disease progression and treatment response in lung cancer, lung transplantation, and cerebrovascular disorders. The lab investigates autophagy and hypoxia pathways in chemotherapy resistance, the role of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in improving surgical outcomes, and the cellular dynamics following cerebral microinfarction. Additionally, the lab contributes to refining cancer staging systems, particularly for pulmonary metastases from hepatocellular carcinoma and the impact of sarcopenia on post-lung transplant outcomes.

15Cerebral microinfarct increases the risk of dementia. But how microscopic cerebrovascular disruption affects the brain tissue in cellular-level are mostly unknown. Herein, with a longitudinal intravital imaging, we serially visualized in vivo dynamic cellular-level changes in astrocyte, pericyte and neuron as well as microvascular integrity after the induction of cerebral microinfarction for 1 month in mice. At day 2-3, it revealed a localized edema with acute astrocyte loss, neuronal death, imp
A loss of salivary gland function often occurs after radiation therapy in head and neck tumors, though secretion of saliva by the salivary glands is essential for the health and maintenance of the oral environment. Transplantation of salivary acinar cells (ACs), in part, may overcome the side effects of therapy. Here we directly differentiated mouse adipose-derived stromal cells (ADSCs) into ACs using a co-culture system. Multipotent ADSCs can be easily collected from stromal vascular fractions
Y-27632 suppresses the expression of senescence-related proteins and enhances cellular proliferation. This study points to the possibility of scaling-up the therapeutic use of SGSCs, which requires a large amount of cells.
A compact but accurate HSPICE macromodel for single-bit resistive RAM (ReRAM) is proposed in this paper. This compact macromodel uses the minimum number of circuit elements to improve the HSPICE simulation speed. And, the macromodel is verified to show very good agreement with the measurements due to voltage-controlled resistors used as the SET and RESET resistors in the macromodel describing well the complicated current-voltage relationship of the ReRAM. An extended version of the macromodel is
Our results demonstrate that neutrophil CRACR2A promotes neutrophil recruitment to sites of sterile inflammation, such as ischemic stroke. Blocking the STIM1-CRACR2A interaction may be a novel therapeutic strategy to mitigate inflammation and consequent tissue injury.
Moving target has a non‐coherent phase characteristic regardless of micro‐Doppler effect caused by body motion, because the movement of the target changes the beat‐frequency and its phase. A phase compensation method to remove the phase variations caused by movement is proposed. Using the proposed phase compensation method, it is possible to classify targets as pedestrians or automobiles based on the phase variance because pedestrians and automobiles have non‐coherent and coherent phases, respec
Blood-brain barrier (BBB) dysfunction is related to the development of neuroinflammation in the central nervous system (CNS). Neuroinflammation has been implicated as one of the key factors in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, Huntington’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease. Despite its importance, the impacts and underlying cellular mechanisms of chronic BBB impairment in neurodegenerative diseases are poorly understood. In this work, we performed a longi
Neutrophils are the most abundant leukocytes in humans and are indispensable for innate immunity. They are short-lived, terminally differentiated cells. However, mounting evidence indicates that neutrophils are heterogeneous in health and disease: they are young or aged in a steady state, while their heterogeneity becomes more diverse in disease conditions, such as cancer, sepsis, and thromboinflammation. Although the presence of distinct neutrophil subsets is well recognized, it is not fully un
