About the Lab
Professor Jin-Woo Park's research lab specializes in advanced functional materials and their biomedical applications, with a strong focus on nanomaterials for regenerative medicine and implant biomaterials. The lab investigates bioactive surfaces—such as Mg-doped nanoporous titanium oxide—that enhance osteoblast function and promote bone healing. It also explores the therapeutic potential of small molecules and pharmacological agents, including PPARγ agonists and flavonoids, in treating metabolic and neurological disorders such as diabetes and post-stroke dysphagia. Additionally, the lab contributes to the development of novel biomedical devices, including multi-band metamaterial absorbers for potential diagnostic or therapeutic applications in electromagnetic fields.

Novel vinylsulfone cyanine dyes (em. 550-850 nm) were designed and synthesized for fluorescent labeling of biomolecules via 1,2-addition reaction in aqueous conditions. Due to the virtue of chemical structures of both fluorophore and reactive group, these dyes could be significantly stable and reactive in various aqueous/organic conditions. A wide variety of pH, temperature, buffer concentration, and protein were tested for the optimal labeling condition.

This study describes wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) of carbon nanofibers (CNFs) in air.
