Professor Jinyoung Moon's research lab specializes in environmental health and epidemiology, focusing on the health impacts of environmental exposures such as PFAS, shift work, and industrial pollutants. The lab conducts rigorous meta-analyses and cohort studies to assess dose-response relationships between occupational and environmental exposures and chronic diseases, particularly cancer and lung disorders. It also develops advanced wastewater treatment technologies, such as membrane bioreactors with granular sulfur, to address emerging contaminants in industrial effluents. The lab emphasizes methodological rigor in epidemiological research, with strong attention to bias control, exposure quantification, and real-world applicability.
Figures are computed from collected data and may differ slightly.
Considering that brain, esophageal, and melanomatous skin cancers have not been targets of epidemiologic studies regarding PFAS exposure, future studies could target these cancers as outcomes of interest.
MMP-7, SP-D, and KL-6 can be used to evaluate the functional and anatomical status of lung involvement in the RA-ILD patients.
In this meta-analysis, as the exposure subcategory used became more concrete, the pooled ORs demonstrated higher values with statistical significance. Although the meta-analysis of cohort studies yielded statistically inconclusive pooled effect estimates, (i) as the number of studies included grows and (ii) as the applied exposure subcategories become more concrete, the pooled RRs could show a different aspect in future research. Additionally, future studies should thoroughly account for changin
Recent toughened water quality standards have necessitated improvements for existing sewer treatment facilities through advanced treatment processes. Therefore, an advanced treatment process that can be installed through simple modification of existing sewer treatment facilities needs to be developed. In this study, a new submerged membrane bioreactor process packed with granular sulfur (MBR-GS) was developed and operated to determine the biological nitrogen removal behaviors of plating wastewat
Seven inclusion criteria were used to determine which studies were eligible for this analysis. Risk ratios from cohort studies and odds ratios from case-control studies were analyzed separately. However, all odds ratios from the case-control studies were excluded because of a high likelihood of publication bias. Moreover, exposure, measured in years of night shift work, was defined based on the information provided by individual studies. Finally, we utilized a recently reported two-stage dose-re
This study has several strengths from the perspective of a dose-response meta-analysis: Strictly applied eight inclusion criteria, separately synthesized RRs from cohort studies and ORs from case-control studies, clearly defined exposure dose, years of night shift work for each risk estimate, a reliable dose-response meta-analysis methodology, and careful considering of selection, exposure, and outcome biases and confounder adjustment for each study. This careful consideration of potential biase
In OEM, compared to general medicine, causal misdiagnosis associated with the probability of causation is also important. For making a diagnosis in OEM, a knowledge base about possible ODs and EDs is essential. Because of this reason, the education and training of treating physicians for common ODs and EDs are important. For ODs and EDs, various intentional behaviors of stakeholders should be considered. This scoping review might contribute to the improvement of understanding for misdiagnosis in
Possible hazardous emissions, like CO and NO2, from cogeneration plants could induce environmental diseases in nearby community populations. The emissions from cogeneration plants should be investigated regularly by a governmental agency, and the long-term health outcomes of nearby community residents should be investigated.
