Professor Joon-Ho Lee's research lab specializes in applied entomology, population ecology, and genetic evaluation in agricultural and invasive pest systems. The lab investigates insect population dynamics, survivorship, and predator-prey interactions in crop ecosystems, with a focus on pest management and biological control. It also conducts genetic and genomic studies to improve livestock and pest traits, integrating molecular tools with ecological and physiological data. The lab emphasizes sustainable agriculture through understanding pest dispersal, genetic structure, and the role of natural enemies in pest suppression.

A three-dimensional spectral-element method (SEM) based on Gauss-Lobatto-Legendre polynomials is proposed to solve vector electromagnetic-wave equations. To suppress spurious solutions, mixed-order curl conforming vector basis functions are used in the SEM. The advantages of this method include its high-order accuracy and its diagonal mass matrix due to the use of orthogonal Legendre polynomials. Thus, the proposed method leads to a regular eigenvalue problem rather than a generalized eigenvalue
A spectral-element time-domain (SETD) method is proposed to solve 3-D transient electromagnetic problems based on Gauss-Lobatto-Legendre polynomials. It has the advantages of spectral accuracy and block-diagonal mass matrix. With the inexpensive inversion of the block-diagonal mass matrix, the proposed method requires only a trivial sparse matrix-vector product at each time step, thus significantly reducing CPU time and memory requirement. Galerkin's method is used for spatial discretization, an
A three-dimensional (3-D) spectral-element method (SEM) based on Gauss-Lobatto-Legendre (GLL) polynomials is proposed to solve the Schro/spl uml/dinger equation in nanodevice simulation. Galerkin's method is employed to obtain the system equation. The high-order basis functions employed are orthogonal and the numerical quadrature points are the same as the GLL integration points, leading to a diagonal mass matrix and a more sparse stiffness matrix. Thus, the proposed method leads to a regular ei
A discontinuous spectral element time-domain method is proposed to analyze transient electromagnetic properties of general 3-D structures. This method is advantageous in that its mass matrices are block-diagonal due to the Gauss-Lobatto-Legendre polynomials, and it allows different orders of basis functions for each subdomain. The Riemann solver is employed in the boundary integral terms to communicate fields between adjacent subdomains. Perfectly matched layers are utilized to truncate the comp
Egg and larval survivorship of Carposina sasakii Matsumura in fruits was investigated, and its effects on adult population dynamics was examined by comparing the seasonal adult population trends in apple and peach orchards. Egg survivorship was relatively high and did not differ among fruits, cultivars, and seasons. However, larval survivorship in fruits was very low according to fruits, cultivars, and seasons. In late apple (‘Fuji’), no larvae survived inside fruits during mid- to late June, an
Genetic parameters of Berkshire pigs for reproduction, carcass and meat quality traits were estimated using the records from a breeding farm in Korea. For reproduction traits, 2,457 records of the total number of piglets born (TNB) and the number of piglets born alive (NBA) from 781 sows and 53 sires were used. For two carcass traits which are carcass weight (CW) and backfat thickness (BF) and for 10 meat quality traits which are pH value after 45 minutes (pH45m), pH value after 24 hours (pH24h)
This paper presents a shape optimal design method for reducing the higher back-EMF harmonics generated in the permanent magnet motors, in which torque ripples could occur. The continuum shape design sensitivity formula and the finite element method are employed to calculate the sensitivity of flux-linkage to the design variables, which determine the shape of iron pole piece. The design variables are optimized with a B-Spline parameterization in order to provide the back-EMF waveform as close as
Single-step methods are the preferred approaches for prediction combining genotyped and non-genotyped animals. Alternative priors allow SSBR to outperform SSGBLUP in some cases.
The purpose of this study was to identify the major etiological agents responsible for invasive bacterial infections in immunocompetent Korean children. We retrospectively surveyed invasive bacterial infections in immunocompetent children caused by eight major pediatric bacteria, namely Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae,Neisseria meningitidis, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus agalactiae,Streptococcus pyogenes, Listeria monocytogenes, and Salmonella species that were diagnosed
Abstract The development, reproduction, and life table of Amblyseius womersleyi (Schicha) were studied at temperatures ranging from 16 to 38°C, 60–70% RH, and a photoperiod of 16:8 (L:D) h. Mortality of A. womersleyi was high in the early developmental stages, and this trend was especially apparent at low temperatures. The developmental threshold for all immature stages was 11.6°C. The total preimaginal developmental time ranged from 48.3 to 316.0 h. The optimal temperature for development was 3
Time domain response-based neural networks and frequency domain response-based neural networks have been proposed for radar target recognition. We propose a natural frequency-based neural network for radar target recognition. Our scheme takes advantage of an aspect angle independence of a natural frequency. It is shown from experimental results that a natural frequency based-neural network using the first natural frequency pair is superior to a time domain response-based neural network in the ca
