About the Lab
Professor Jun Yup Kim's research lab focuses on stroke epidemiology, acute stroke care, and the psychosocial aspects of chronic disease management, particularly in the Korean population. The lab conducts large-scale population-based studies to assess stroke burden, risk factors, and healthcare outcomes, while also evaluating the effectiveness of clinical interventions such as blood pressure management and cosmetic education programs for breast cancer patients. A key emphasis is placed on improving stroke care delivery through quality improvement initiatives, stroke center development, and health system integration. The lab also contributes to national health policy by generating evidence-based reports on stroke statistics and care quality in Korea.

Our stroke identification algorithm may be useful to grasp stroke burden in Korea. However, further efforts to refine the algorithm are necessary.
This study describes the current status of acute stroke care in Korea. Despite quite acceptable quality of stroke care, it suggests regional and hospital disparities. Expansion of stroke units, stroke center certification or accreditation, and connections between stroke centers and emergency medical services are highly recommended.
Annual EVT case volume was associated with 1-year mortality. The volume threshold per hospital was 15 cases per year.
The fasting and non-fasting hypertriglyceridemia were prevalent in AIS patients and showed similar clinical characteristics and outcomes. High FTG and NFTG levels were not associated with occurrence of subsequent clinical events up to one year.
Patients with AIS are susceptible to major GIB, particularly in the first month after the onset of AIS, with the risk decreasing thereafter. Implementing preventive strategies may be important, especially for patients with anemia and impaired renal function at stroke onset and those with a disabling stroke.

Bilateral vestibulopathy (BV) is characterized by oscillopsia and imbalance during locomotion. Half of the cases of BV are idiopathic, and BV due to brain tumor has been reported only rarely. We report a case of BV due to bilateral cerebellopontine-angle tumors in a patient with neurofibromatosis type 2.
