Professor Kyoung Jin Kim's research lab specializes in clinical and translational dermatology, with a focus on inflammatory and autoimmune skin disorders such as erythema annulare centrifugum, as well as the pathological mechanisms underlying cutaneous reactions to medical implants like Artecoll. The lab also investigates metabolic and cardiovascular complications in diabetes and hypertension, particularly the long-term impact of glycemic control and hormonal imbalances—such as in primary aldosteronism—on atrial fibrillation risk. Additionally, the lab explores molecular pathways in cancer metastasis, particularly the role of signaling molecules like protein kinase CK2 and platelet-activating factor in NF-κB activation and tumor progression.

In this study, the prevalence of frailty was found to vary depending on the scale used. Efforts aimed at screening and providing intervention for frailty and frail adults at risk, respectively, are needed to improve health outcomes considering the characteristics of each frailty scale and the determined prevalence.

Misdiagnosis is frequent in scabies of infants and children because of a low index of suspicion, secondary eczematous changes, and inappropriate therapy. Topical or systemic corticosteroids may modify the clinical presentation of scabies and that situation is referred to as scabies incognito. These results demonstrate that HO-1 is a target site and an antioxidant mediator of simvastatin in human RPE cells. Simvastatin-dependent upregulation of HO-1 is mainly via PI3K/Akt-dependent signaling pathways. Simvastatin may have some clinical benefits in preventing retinal diseases associated with oxidative stress, such as AMD.
