About the Lab
Professor Kyung Soo Kim's research lab specializes in translational biomedical research with a focus on otorhinolaryngology, oncology, and inflammatory diseases. The lab investigates molecular mechanisms underlying head and neck cancers, including the apoptotic effects of natural compounds like EGb 761 and its active components such as quercetin and kaempferol. It also explores therapeutic applications of botulinum toxin A in treating chronic rhinitis and evaluates clinical risk factors—such as margin status in pancreatic cancer and the link between hypertension and epistaxis—for improved patient outcomes. 15Our results suggest that stratification of the patients based on margin status is warranted in the clinical trials assessing the role of adjuvant treatment for pancreatic cancer.
In this study, RIS accounted for 0.9% of the cases of sarcoma, with increasing incidence. Despite the association of curative resection with increased survival, it could be applied to only 58% of the patients. Considering the limited treatment options for RIS, conduct of a genetic study to identify the underlying mechanism of RIS is needed.

The contralateral hippocampus could be effectively spared in patients with primary brain tumor via VMAT to preserve the verbal memory function. Further investigation is needed to identify those patients who will most benefit from hippocampal-sparing radiotherapy of the primary brain tumor.
