MMP-2 contributes to the development of atherosclerosis in apoE(-/-) mice.
In a mouse carotid artery blood flow cessation model, MMP-2 contributes to intimal hyperplasia mainly through the SMC migration from the media into the intima by degrading and breaching the extracellular matrix proteins surrounding each cell and the internal elastic lamina.
Vascular remodeling, defined as lasting structural changes in the vessel wall in response to hemodynamic stimuli, plays a role in many (patho)physiological processes requiring cell migration and degradation of extracellular matrix(ECM). Matrix metalloproteinase(MMP) system can degrade most ECM components. Several lines of evidence support a role for MMP system components in the development and progression of atherosclerosis and restenosis after angioplasty. This review article focuses on the rol
Among the community-dwelling frail elderly, falls are associated with caregiver burden even when controlling for various possible confounding factors.
We evaluated the effect of the antioxidant, probucol, on the cytotoxic effects of oxidized low density lipoprotein (OX-LDL) or of cumene hydroperoxide (CumOOH) on cultured bovine endothelial cells (EC). The addition of CumOOH to EC caused the release of lactate dehydrogenase and the accumulation of thiobarbituric acid-reacting substances (TBARS), effects that were protected against by preincubation with either probucol or tocopherol. Similarly, preincubation of EC with those antioxidants protect
Among community-dwelling frail older people, day care service use two or more times per week was associated with 44% to 63% lower 21-month mortality.
