Photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting supplies an environmentally friendly, sustainable approach to generating renewable hydrogen fuels. Oxides semiconductors, e.g. TiO2, BiVO4, and Fe2O3, have been widely developed as photoelectrodes to demonstrate the utility in PEC systems. Even though significant effort has been made to increase the PEC efficiency, these materials are still far from practical applications. The main issue of metal oxides is the wide bandgap energy that hinders effective
In recent years, yolk–shell nanocrystals have become the spotlight of research worldwide because of the fascinating structural properties such as a permeable shell, an interior void space, and a movable yolk. Numerous studies have reported various compositions of yolk–shell nanocrystals. Among them, yolk–shell nanocrystals comprising metal yolk and semiconductor shells are particularly interesting because they can be geared to mass transport-related utilizations, for example, photocatalysis. We
This study presents the synthesis and characterization of Au nanoparticle-decorated BiFeO3 (Au-BiFeO3) nanocrystals fabricated by a hydrothermal technique. The key focus is the augmented photocatalytic properties of these nanocrystals for the effective photodegradation of methylene blue (MB), a common industrial dye. The magnetic properties of the Au-BiFeO3 merely differ from those of the BiFeO3. The decoration of Au nanoparticles onto the BiFeO3 introduces heterojunction structures that lead to
Gold nano-particles and MnO2 are decorated on polyaniline support to be used as the catalyst in non-enzymatic electrochemical sensing of glucose. The polyaniline is prepared by electro-polymerization, and decoration of the gold nano-particles and MnO2 are conducted by direct-dropping KAuCl4 and KMnO4 solutions onto the polyaniline, respectively. The catalytic activity in glucose oxidation is evaluated by cyclic voltammetry in 0.1 M KOH containing 0∼50 mM of glucose. The catalytic activity is fou
Nanocrystalline Ni-Co alloy deposits with grain sizes less than 30 nm were produced by electrodeposition with a direct current in a sulfamate bath. Surfaces of the Ni-Co alloy deposits showed granular morphology. The size of the granular particles and the Co content decreased when a lower current density was applied. Addition of NiBr2 and a surface brightener (NSF-E) into the bath resulted in the grain refinement effect and an increase of Co content in the deposit. The grain size reached roughly
In this study, a non-enzymatic glucose composed of gold nanoparticle decorated polypyrrole (PPy) is reported. The PPy is prepared by electro-polymerization in 0.05 M phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) containing 0.1 M pyrrole monomer. The gold nanoparticles are decorated by directly dropping 0.1 mM KAuCl4 solution onto the PPy coated electrode. No enzymes are used in preparation of the catalytic electrode. The amount and size of the gold nanoparticles are both found to be dependent on amount of the
