Professor Yang Won Min's research lab specializes in gastrointestinal diseases, with a focus on advanced endoscopic therapies, liver cirrhosis complications, and gastrointestinal malignancies. The lab investigates the impact of medical interventions—such as proton pump inhibitors, endoscopic resection techniques (including ESD), and interventional radiology—on patient outcomes in conditions like spontaneous bacterial peritonitis, lower GI bleeding, and esophageal anastomotic leaks. The lab also explores nutritional interventions, such as probiotic-enriched yogurt, for functional gastrointestinal disorders like IBS. Through clinical and translational research, the lab aims to optimize treatment strategies in digestive diseases, particularly in early gastric cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma.

Proton pump inhibitor use significantly increases the risk of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis in cirrhotic patients with ascites. Proton pump inhibitor use should be undertaken with greater caution and appropriately in patients with cirrhosis.
VCE did not have a significant impact on the long-term outcome of patients with OGIB.
