Professor Yuting Guo's research lab specializes in computational and systems biology, focusing on the molecular mechanisms of neuroinflammation in intracerebral hemorrhage and the role of microglial polarization in brain injury. The lab also investigates interfacial heat transfer phenomena in microelectronic and biotechnological systems, using non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations to explore surfactant effects on thermal interface materials and surface adsorption. Additionally, the lab applies advanced mass cytometry techniques to study host-pathogen interactions, particularly silver-induced responses in bacterial populations and plant defense systems. These interdisciplinary efforts bridge neuroscience, materials science, and systems biology to address critical challenges in health and technology.

Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is the most lethal subtype of stroke, but effective treatments are lacking, and neuroinflammation plays a key role in the pathogenesis. In the innate immune response to cerebral hemorrhage, microglia first appear around the injured tissue and are involved in the inflammatory cascade response. Microglia respond to acute brain injury by being activated and polarized to either a typical M1-like (pro-inflammatory) or an alternative M2-like (anti-inflammatory) phenotype
Molecular dynamics simulations of a liquid layer between solid surfaces under a temperature gradient were performed to investigate the mechanism by which solid-liquid interfacial heat transfer is affected by adsorption of surfactant on solid surfaces with various concentrations of surfactant. The surfactant and solvent were chosen to be single-atom molecules with a contact angle of 0 and 180 degrees to the solid surface, respectively. Density distributions showed that the surfactant molecules fo
Cinnamic acid promotes <i>Fusarium</i> wilt by stimulating pathogen enzyme production and destroying the defense capability of faba bean roots. Intercropping reduces <i>Fusarium</i> wilt by alleviating the damage caused by cinnamic acid to the defense system of the faba bean root system.
The addition of surfactants to polymer-based thermal interface materials applied to improve the heat dissipation efficiency of chip surfaces in contact has attracted attention for the microelectronic processing technology. In the present study, the mechanism by which a long-chain surfactant affects heat transfer across the interface between solid surface and polymer liquid was investigated by non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulation. We constructed a system where tetracosane was used as a s
In the present study, we investigated the effect of the number and position of functional groups, and the length of the main chain and side chain in organic surfactant on adsorption behavior and interfacial heat transfer between silica surface and alkane solvent by non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulation, where the surfactants were primary/secondary alcohol, monohydric/dihydric alcohol, and linear/branched alcohol. The results showed a similar adsorption behavior for all the surfactant typ
<b>Background:</b> Mass cytometry (Cytometry by Time of Flight, CyTOF) allows single-cell characterization on the basis of specific metal-based cell markers. In addition, other metals in the mass range such as silver can be detected per cell. Bacteria are known to be sensible to silver and a protocol was developed to measure both the number of affected cells per population and the quantities of silver per cell. <b>Methods:</b> For mass cytometry ruthenium red was used as a marker for all cells o
Coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations were performed to understand the morphological evolution and adsorption mechanism of Nafion ionomers from the aqueous solutions to the Pt/C substrate surface under various solution compositions and substrate properties. We found that the ionomer coverage did not increase with the increasing ionomer-to-carbon ratio but was related to the size and concentration of the ionomer aggregates, following the Langmuir adsorption model that shows a wettability
Using molecular dynamics simulation, we investigated the mechanism by which the intercalation of a surfactant solution reduces the contact thermal resistance of two solid surfaces. We constructed a model system where two solid surfaces with a gap were immersed in a surfactant solution, and the gap was filled with permeating molecules to form a molecular thin film. By varying the concentration of the surfactant and the distance between the confining surfaces, factors affecting the intersolid heat
We intensively studied faba bean (<i>Vicia faba</i> L.) and wheat (<i>Triticum aestivum</i> L.) intercropping and found that this type of intercropping can effectively control the occurrence of faba bean wilt under field conditions. We conducted hydroponic experiments to explore the role of plant extracts in the process of soil-borne diseases and the mechanism of disease control of faba bean and wheat intercropping. In this experiment, three concentration gradients of faba bean and wheat stem, l
