In chemical synthesis, rapid intramolecular rearrangements often foil attempts at site-selective bimolecular functionalization. We developed a microfluidic technique that outpaces the very rapid anionic Fries rearrangement to chemoselectively functionalize iodophenyl carbamates at the ortho position. Central to the technique is a chip microreactor of our design, which can deliver a reaction time in the submillisecond range even at cryogenic temperatures. The microreactor was applied to the synth
Abstract Metal doped core–shell Metal‐Organic Frameworks@Covalent Organic Frameworks (MOFs@COFs) are presented as a novel platform for photocatalysis. A palladium (Pd) doped MOFs@COFs in the form of Pd/TiATA@LZU1 shows excellent photocatalytic performance for tandem dehydrogenation and hydrogenation reactions in a continuous‐flow microreactor and a batch system, indicating the great potential of the metal doped MOFs@COFs as a multifunctional platform for photocatalysis. Explanations for the perf
A fierce dog: A method for the continuous in-situ on-demand generation, separation, and reaction of diazomethane in a dual-channel microreactor has been developed (see picture; Diazald=N-methyl-N-nitroso-p-toluenesulfonamide). The microchemical system allows a variety of diazomethane reactions to be performed without the most common problems of preparation, handling, transfer, and decomposition. Detailed facts of importance to specialist readers are published as ”Supporting Information”. Such do
Abstract This study presents a simple synthetic approach for the in situ preparation of monodisperse hybrid Janus microspheres (HJM) having organic and inorganic parts in a PDMS‐based microfluidic device. Based on the mechanism of shear‐force‐driven break‐off, merged droplets of two photocurable oligomer solutions having distinctive properties are generated into an immiscible continuous phase. Functionalized perfluoropolyether (PFPE) as the organic phase and hydrolytic allylhydridopolycarbosilan
Can't smell this: An integrated continuous-flow microfluidic setup enables in situ generation, extraction, separation, and reaction of foul-smelling isocyanides with little exposure to the surroundings. Isocyanides were generated by dehydration of the corresponding N-substituted formamides, and several representative isocyanide-based organic reactions were successfully performed. DIPEA = N,N-diisopropylethylamine.
A transparent dual-channel microreactor with highly enhanced contact area-to-volume ratio was fabricated for efficient photosensitized oxygenations. The dual-channel microreactor shielded with polyvinylsilazane (PVSZ) consisting of an upper channel for liquid flow and a lower channel for O(2) flow, allows sufficient phase contact along the parallel channels through a gas permeable PDMS membrane for maintaining the O(2) saturated solution. Under full exposure of reactants to light, the reactions
Hydrophobization of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is important to push forward their practical use and thus has attracted increasing interest. In contrast to the previous reports, which mainly focused on the modification of organic ligands in MOFs, herein, we reported a novel strategy to decorate the metal-oxo nodes of MOFs with phenylsilane to afford super-hydrophobic NH2 -UiO-66(Zr), which shows highly improved base resistance and holds great promise in versatile applications, suc
An integrated microfluidic system for multiple reactions and separations of hazardous ethyl diazoacetate is presented. The integrated techniques include: a droplet technique for liquid–liquid and/or gas–liquid separation and in situ generation of the toxic reagent, a dual channel membrane technique based on a cheap polymeric microseparator for liquid–liquid separation, and a capillary microreactor for carrying out cascade reactions in a sequential and continuous manner.
A SiCN ceramic microreactor with high temperature tolerance and chemical resistance has been fabricated by a 3D printing method.
We present a pressure-tolerant 3D parallel polyimide (PI) film microreactor operating at up to ~160 bars with direct 3D flow focusing geometry for mass production of PEG-PLGA nanoparticles in a ~10(1) gram-scale (g h(-1)).
Macroporous SiC with a highly ordered pore array was prepared for the first time using low molecular weight SiC preceramic polymers such as polymethylsilane or polycarbosilane by utilizing sacrificial colloidal silica crystalline arrays, as a template which were subsequently etched off after pyrolysis in an argon atmosphere.
We present covalently self-assembled peptide hollow nanocapsule and peptide lamella. These biomimetic dityrosine peptide nanostructures are synthesized by one-step photopolymerization of a tyrosine-rich short peptide without the aid of a template. This simple approach offers direct synthesis of fluorescent peptide nanocages and free-standing thin films. The simple crosslinked peptide lamella films provide robust mechanical properties with an elastic modulus of approximately 30 GPa and a hardness
A continuous-flow homogeneous photocatalytic method has been devised for the direct arylation of 2H-indazoles. This visible-light-promoted approach directly accesses a wide range of structurally diverse C3-arylated scaffolds of biological interest in a fast (1 min), single-step reaction by using eosin Y as an organophotocatalyst. Furthermore, a microreactor technology is also employed for the fast synthesis of liver X receptor inhibitor drugs with very good yields under metal-free conditions, wh
