Professor Jeong Eun Shin's research lab focuses on neural repair and regenerative medicine, particularly in the context of neonatal hypoxic-ischemic brain injury and spinal cord injury. The lab investigates the therapeutic potential of neural progenitor cell (NPC) transplantation combined with biomaterial scaffolds to enhance neural regeneration and functional recovery. A key focus is optimizing cell survival and integration in the hostile post-injury environment through biological modulation, such as TNF-α pretreatment of NPCs. The lab also explores long-term respiratory outcomes in preterm infants, particularly the impact of bronchopulmonary dysplasia on childhood lung health.

Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) can cause respiratory morbidity beyond the neonatal period. We aimed to analyze the association of BPD on childhood lower respiratory illness (LRI) and asthma among patients diagnosed with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). This case-control study analyzed data between 2002 and 2015 from a nationwide database. We included 55,066 children with RDS. Two-year LRI and asthma at ages 3 and 5 were assessed. Readmission for LRIs within 2 years of birth occurred in 53.
The threshold flux for nanobubble formation and liposome rupture is reduced by 50-60% by adding a liquid mixture of tetradecanol and perfluoroheptane to the interior cavity of 40 nm diameter hollow gold nanoshells (HGN), and allowing the tetradecanol to solidify to hold the perfluoroheptane in place.
