Professor Tae Hyun Choi's research lab specializes in regenerative medicine and biomedical engineering, focusing on tissue repair and reconstruction using bioactive peptides and nanomaterials. The lab investigates innovative strategies for bone regeneration, including peptide-based nanofibers that mimic natural healing processes, and explores applications in craniofacial reconstruction and ischemia-reperfusion injury. A key emphasis is placed on developing minimally invasive, patient-specific solutions such as mobile facial recognition for clinical verification and advanced biomaterials for improved surgical outcomes.

The number of patients requiring flat bone transplantation continues to increase worldwide. Cell transplantation has been successfully applied clinically; however, it causes another defect site and the time requirements to harvest cells and expand them are considerable. In this study, KLD12/KLD12-SP (KLD12+KLD12-substance P [SP]) was designed to mimic endogenous tissue-healing processes. The structures of KLD12, KLD12-SP, and KLD12/KLD12-SP were observed by transmission electron microscopy and c
Ischemia-reperfusion injury is a phenomenon that occurs when tissues are subjected to ischemia for a variable period of time, and then reperfused. Inflammatory reaction has been implicated as one of the most important mechanism of ischemia-reperfusion injury. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effects of anthocyanins from black soybean seed coat on keratinocytes in vitro and ischemia-reperfusion injury in vivo. We investigated the inhibition, by anthocyanins, of the
It is possible to correctly identify both outpatients and inpatients and also reduce the unnecessary cost of patient verification by using the mobile facial recognition app with great accuracy. Our mobile app can provide valuable aid to patient verification, including when the patient is unconscious, as an alternative identification method.
Anthocyanins are known to have antioxidant and antiinflammatory effects. We hypothesized that anthocyanins would enhance wound healing in Sprague-Dawley rats. The purpose of this study was to evaluate our hypothesis and investigate the mechanism of wound healing enhancement. The cytoprotective effect of an immortalized epidermal keratinocyte cell line (HaCaT) and human neonatal dermal fibroblasts in response to various concentrations of anthocyanins was determined. Vascular endothelial growth fa
A bioabsorbable polymeric bone plate enabled with both diagnostic and therapeutic functionalities (radiopacity and sustained drug release, respectively) is proposed. To this end, a drug-inorganic nanohybrid (RS-LDH) is examined as a theranostic agent by intercalating an anti-resorptive bone remodeling drug, risedronate (RS) into a layered double hydroxide (LDH) via an ion-exchange reaction. The RS-LDH is prepared as a sheet with a biodegradable polymer, poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid), and is then
We aimed to investigate the association of circulatory senescence-associated secretory phenotypes (SASPs) produced by senescent cells with chronological and menopausal age in women aged 45 years or more. The proteomic profiles for 32 SASP factors of plasma samples were measured in 76 healthy postmenopausal women aged 46-82 years from the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study Cardiovascular Disease Association Study (KoGES-CAVAS). We assessed the association between the SASP factors and aging indi
