About the Lab
Professor Bok-young Jeong's research lab specializes in clinical dentistry with a focus on endodontics, oral pathology, and dental biomaterials. The lab investigates pulp and periapical disease diagnosis, innovative impression techniques for complex restorative cases, and the clinical application of biocompatible materials like mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA). Additionally, the lab explores genetic diagnostics in pediatric syndromes such as Prader-Willi syndrome, emphasizing precision in clinical and cytogenetic evaluation. The research integrates diagnostic accuracy, patient-centered techniques, and evidence-based clinical protocols in general and transplant dentistry.

15PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to determine the absolute value of the root/crown ratio (R/C ratio) using panoramic radiographs (PRGs) in a healthy Korean population. MATERIALS AND METHODS. In total, 99 patient radiographs (of 50 males and 49 females subjects; aged 16 to 24 years old) were examined, and 2,770 teeth were analyzed. Crown lengths and root lengths were measured with modified Lind’s measurements using PACS tools by two examiners in two separate sessions two months apart. All data
BACKGROUND. Even though excellent impression materials are now available for making accurate replication for hard and soft tissue, the numerous dentists have faced lots of obstacles in making simultaneous impressions of multiple abutments. CASE DESCRIPTION. This article describes a modified method of tray fabrication using auto-polymerizing acrylic resin and impression technique for multiple prepared teeth in cases with limitations and difficulties in taking dental impressions. CLINICAL IMPLICAT
Purpose : To detect microdeletion of 15q11-13 region, high resolution cytogenetic analysis or FISH with probe at Prader-Willi syndrome region can be used. We tried to evaluate whether FISH with SNRPN is a more effective method than G-banding microscope in the diagnosis of Prader-Willi syndrome. Methods : Peripheral blood sampling was done on five patients who we suspected of Prader-Willi syndrome clinically and lymphocytes from peripheral blood sampling were cultured. G-banding microscope was us
The correct pulpal and periapical diagnosis is the key to all predictable endodontic treatment. This diagnosis should be based on medical and dental history, presenting symptoms, diagnostic tests and clinical findings. The classification of pulp and periapical diseases which uses terminology related to clinical findings is proposed. This will help clinicians understand the progressive nature of the pulp disease processes and direct them to the most appropriate and conservative treatment strategy
Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) is a calcium silicate-based cement commonly used in endodontic procedures involving pulpal regeneration and hard tissue repair, such as pulp capping, pulpotomy, apexogenesis, apexification, perforation repair, and root-end filling. Since MTA’s introduction in 1993, numerous studies have been published regarding various aspects of this material. The purpose of this paper was to review the composition, properties, biocompatibility, and to give evidence-based recomm
Background: The major goal of dental management before and after liver transplantation is the prevention of bacteremia from an oral source that could lead to systemic infection. However dental treatment in liver transplant patients have the risk of infection and bleeding. so it is needed special dental consideration. Methods: 42 liver transplant candidates who visited department of Advanced General Dentistry in Yonsei University College of dentistry from March 1, 2010 to February 29, 2012 were s
Orthodontic extrusion is usually performed by means of a fixed orthodontic appliance that utilizes arch wire attached to adjacent teeth and transfers the desired force by elastic from the wire to the root. However, clinicians often encounter cases where the bonding required for tooth traction is not possible because the adjacent teeth have been restored with ceramic or veneer. The purpose of this case report is to describe a modified orthodontic extrusion appliance that is useful when convention
Intraoral symptoms presented by patients with systemic disease may not be originated simply from their teeth and periodontal tissue. Because the specific systemic disease could be expressed in oral cavity, thorough inspection, differential diagnosis and appropriate dental treatment must be required. Authors report two cases of dental patients with systemic disease in department of advanced general dentistry. For accurate diagnosis, proper treatment and appropriate medical consultation, it is imp
The aim of this review was to compare calcium hydroxide-based root canal sealers with various contemporary commercial sealers especially leakage / solubility aspect. An extensive search of the endodontic literature through pubmed was made to identify publications related to calcium hydroxide-based sealers, epoxy resin-based sealers, methacrylate resin-based sealers and bioceramic-based sealers. 1. All sealers leak in long-term evaluation (>60 days). (except MTA sealers, because they do not have
Flexible dentures are routinely used to patients with great esthetic concerns. Also, there are advocated as an alternative treatment option for those with general medical problems and have limitations in receiving and(or) agreeing to surgical treatment, including implantation. Flexible dentures can also be suggested to patients whose abutment teeth show poor prognosis, or when the patient comes with financial limitations. Having strengths of its own however; flexible dentures have its shortcomin
Purpose : Growth hormone(GH) is a powerful inhibitor of lipoprotein lipase and is known to decrease fat cell mass. The lipolytic effect has more pronounced influence on visceral fat than subcutaneous fat. The effects of GH therapy on GH receptor in fat tissue are not clear. We in- vestigated the changes in fat tissue and GH receptor mRNA in adipose tissue with GH therapy. Methods : Eight children with growth hormone deficiency(GHD) and 9 children with Prader-Willi syndrome(PWS) were studied. The
In this study, a dual-coated stent with two types of synthetic and natural polymers was reported for enhanced blood compatibility with anti-proliferation and anti-coagulation activities. A cobalt-chromium metal stent was coated with sirolimus-loaded poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) via ultrasonic spray method and the PLGAcoated stent was then covered with heparin-loaded alginate hydrogel to reduce in-stent restenosis and blood coagulation. Surface morphology and thickness of the double-layer
This article describes a modified method of tray fabrication using autopolymerizing acrylic resin and an impression technique for both implants and natural teeth simultaneously. This method can be used for accurate replication of multiple prepared teeth and implants to be made at one sitting in the mandibular arch for the difficult case to control.
Inferior alveolar nerve block anesthesia is one of the most common procedures in dental clinic. Although it is well known as safe procedure, complications always can be occurred. Ocular complications such as diplopia, loss of vision, opthalmoplegia are very rare, but once it happens, dentist and patient can be embarrassed and rapport will be decreased between them. We experienced one diplopia case after inferior alveolar nerve block anesthesia and treated without any further complication. We rep
Hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation (HSCT) is a treatment for immune deficiency, autoimmune diseases, and hematopoietic malignancies. The main complication of allogenic HSCT is graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). Oral mucosal biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis and treatment planning of GVHD, but this procedure causes bleeding and bacteremia in a poor general condition. We evaluated the efficacy of laser-assisted biopsy as a minimally invasive treatment. Three cases were described in t
