About the Lab
Professor Boseong Kang's research lab specializes in digital health and telemedicine, focusing on leveraging mobile and web-based technologies to enhance clinical decision-making and patient care. Key research directions include mobile teleradiology, smartphone-based teleconsulting for medical imaging, and AI-assisted diagnosis systems—particularly for emergency and critical care settings. The lab also investigates the use of social media platforms for medical knowledge sharing and the application of artificial intelligence in pandemic response, such as rapid diagnosis of infectious diseases like COVID-19.

15To examine the use of online social networking for cardiovascular care using Facebook. All posts and comments in a Facebook group between June 2011 and May 2012 were reviewed, and a survey was conducted. A total of 298 members participated. Of the 277 wall posts, 26.7% were question posts requesting rapid replies, and 50.5% were interesting cases shared with other members. The median response time for the question posts was 16 min (IQR 8-47), which tended to decrease as more members joined the g
We developed a new type of mobile teleradiology system using an ultramobile PC (UMPC) for web-based remote viewing over a wireless network. We assessed the diagnostic performance of this system for abdominal CT interpretation. Performance was compared with an emergency department clinical monitor using a DICOM viewer. A total of 100 abdominal CT examinations were presented to four observers. There were 56 examinations showing appendicitis and 44 which were normal. The observers viewed the images
We assessed the feasibility of using a camcorder mobile phone for teleconsulting about cardiac echocardiography. The diagnostic performance of evaluating left ventricle (LV) systolic function was measured by three emergency medicine physicians. A total of 138 short echocardiography video sequences (from 70 subjects) was selected from previous emergency room ultrasound examinations. The measurement of LV ejection fraction based on the transmitted video displayed on a mobile phone was compared wit
Objective To investigate whether the clinician-performed ultrasonography based on the specific criteria for paediatric appendicitis could decrease the negative appendectomy rate without treatment failure. Methods The study was a retrospective review of paediatric patients with suspected appendicitis who presented at the emergency department of a teaching hospital over a period of 18 months. The clinicians performed the ultrasound and decided whether the patients with suspected appendicitis shoul

As a global pandemic, New Coronary Pneumonia (COVID-19) has infected more than 10 million people worldwide. In the initial stage of outbreaks that lacks detection capabilities of nucleic acid testing, it become important approach to achieve the initial screening of patients through the application of artificial intelligence and other technologies. We proposed a technical solution to quickly establish a COVID-19 AI assisted diagnosis system by using the Tianhe artificial intelligence innovation i

P u r p o s e: Until recently, three variants of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) have been recognized: the first is posterior-canal canalolithiasis, the second is horizontal- canal canalolithiasis, and the last is horizontal-canal cupulolithiasis. However, the last two types of BPPV have not been introduced into the textbook of Emergency Medicine yet. The otolith repositioning maneuvers are effective treatments for BPPV, but in emergency medicine, there has been little interest in an
Sketching is a natural way to input chemical structures that can be used to query information from a large chemical structure database. Based on a user's incomplete sketch of a chemical structure, sketch prediction becomes a challenging problem not only due to arbitrary drawings orders among users but also similarities among chemical structure layouts. In this paper, we present a graph-based approach to handle the sketch prediction problem. We use multisets as the data representation of hand-dra
