About the Lab
Professor Byungho Son's research lab specializes in breast cancer genetics, molecular oncology, and personalized surgical oncology. The lab focuses on identifying genetic risk factors such as BRCA1/2 mutations and mismatch repair gene alterations in Korean breast cancer patients, with particular emphasis on hereditary and early-onset disease. 15NASSM with immediate transverse rectus abdominis musculocutaneous reconstruction is a viable surgical treatment in breast cancer patients in any stage. Recurrence and complication rates for NASSM were similar to those for standard surgical breast cancer treatments.
The present study showed a continuous increase in the number of patients with breast cancer; the proportion of young patients, asymptomatic patients, early breast cancer, breast-conserving surgery, and immediate reconstruction after mastectomy; and the number of patients with risk factors. These results suggest that the clinical characteristics of Korean breast cancer patients reflect the patterns of Western countries.
