About the Lab

Professor Chan Wook Park's research lab specializes in perinatal inflammation and its implications in preterm birth, focusing on the role of inflammatory biomarkers such as matrix metalloproteinase-8 (MMP-8) in amniotic fluid. The lab investigates the pathogenesis of intra-amniotic inflammation, funisitis, and chorioamnionitis in preterm pregnancies, particularly in the context of preterm labor and preterm prelabor rupture of membranes. Key research directions include the clinical significance of inflammatory markers as predictors of adverse outcomes and the development of rapid bedside tests like the MMP-8 PTD Check for early risk assessment. The lab also explores the qualitative and quantitative relationships between fetal, maternal, and placental inflammatory responses.

The relationship between product involvement and product knowledge: Moderating roles of product type and product knowledge type
Chan‐Wook Park, Byeong‐Joon Moon
SJR Q1Psychology and Marketing

Abstract To shed further light on the correlation between consumer product involvement and consumer product knowledge, the authors examined such correlation by treating product type and product knowledge type as moderating variables. The results show that the correlation between a consumer's product involvement and objective product knowledge is higher in a utilitarian product than in a hedonic product. On the contrary, the correlation between a consumer's product involvement and subjective prod

The relationship among the progression of inflammation in umbilical cord, fetal inflammatory response, early-onset neonatal sepsis, and chorioamnionitis
Jeong‐Won Oh, Chan‐Wook Park, Kyung Chul Moon, Joong Shin Park, Jong Kwan Jun
SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

FIR, EONS and chorioamnionitis continuously increase according to the progression of inflammation in UC among preterm-gestations with inflammation in extraplacental membranes or CP. This finding may suggest that funisitis(inflammation in UC) is both qualitatively and quantitatively histologic-counterpart of FIRS, and a surrogate-marker for chorioamnionitis.

Mild to Moderate, but Not Minimal or Severe, Acute Histologic Chorioamnionitis or Intra-Amniotic Inflammation Is Associated with a Decrease in Respiratory Distress Syndrome of Preterm Newborns without Fetal Growth Restriction
Chan‐Wook Park, Joong Shin Park, Jong Kwan Jun, Bo Hyun Yoon
SJR Q1Neonatology

BACKGROUND: Acute histologic chorioamnionitis (acute-HCA) is known to be associated with a decreased risk of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in newborns. However, there is no information about whether the severity of acute-HCA or intra-amniotic inflammation (IAI) is associated with the development of RDS. OBJECTIVES: To assess the relationship between the severity of acute-HCA or IAI and the development of RDS in preterm newborns due to preterm labor and intact membranes (PTL) or preterm pre

Neutrophil to Lymphocyte Ratio in Maternal Blood: A Clue to Suspect Amnionitis
Joon‐Hyung Lee, Chan‐Wook Park, Kyung Chul Moon, Joong Shin Park, Jong‐Kwan Jun
SJR Q1Journal of Clinical MedicineOA

There is no information about whether maternal neutrophil to lymphocyte ratios (NLRs) progressively increase with respect to the progression of acute histologic chorioamnionitis (acute-HCA) and increased maternal NLR is a risk factor for amnionitis, known as advanced acute-HCA, in pregnant women at risk for spontaneous preterm birth (PTB). The objective of the current study is to examine this issue. The study population included 132 singleton PTB (<34 weeks) due to either preterm labor or pre
