Professor Choong Ho Shin's research lab specializes in pediatric endocrinology and metabolic diseases, with a focus on thyroid disorders, type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), and congenital hyperinsulinism in children. The lab investigates the genetic and environmental determinants of autoimmune and endocrine diseases in pediatric populations, particularly the role of HLA polymorphisms in autoimmune thyroid disease among children with type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) develops in genetically susceptible individuals as a result of progressive autoimmune destruction of beta cells.
