About the Lab
Professor Chung Hyung Lee's research lab specializes in metaphysics, modal logic, and the philosophy of language, with a focus on foundational issues in logic, ontology, and the semantics of modality. The lab investigates paradoxes of infinity, retrocausation, and collective causation, as well as the philosophical implications of infinite structures in logic and spacetime. It also explores the semantics of modal operators, especially in relation to impossible worlds and iterated possibility, and examines the logical and linguistic foundations of decision theory involving infinite expected utility. The lab integrates formal methods with deep philosophical analysis to address puzzles in metaphysics and epistemology.

10I construct a decision-theoretic puzzle based on the assumption that it is possible for there to be a team of infinitely many people whose utility scales are unbounded. I argue that the puzzle can be resolved, without requiring that no rational agent should have unbounded utility scales, by employing a more general definition of utility, on which utility is measured not by amounts of returns but by changes in total wealth.
