About the Lab
Professor Dohui Kim's research lab specializes in human-centered safety and health technologies, focusing on enhancing cognitive performance through natural compounds, improving protective equipment for healthcare and emergency responders, and evaluating thermal comfort and protection in vulnerable populations. The lab investigates the efficacy and safety of bioactive natural materials—such as BF-7—for cognitive enhancement in children, while also advancing the design and performance of personal protective equipment (PPE) for optimal mobility, protection, and thermal comfort. Additionally, the lab examines environmental and behavioral factors affecting thermal perception and health outcomes in aging and rural populations, particularly among elderly ethnic minorities in Northeast China.

This study aimed at evaluating the visibility of new and damaged firefighter turnout gear by smoke and light intensities. Eight firefighters evaluated the visibility of turnout gear within the range of 0 (not visible) to 100 (very visible) points. Additional experiments using LED bands and flashlights were performed. Under the day condition, the visibility scores of new and damaged FPC were 2.1 and 1.8 points respectively, under the smoke condition, while the visibility scores were 100.0 and 66.

2011년 7월부터 2012년 2월에 걸쳐 광양만, 목포내만, 신안 비금도 주변해역의 저층 퇴적물의 COD와 AVS를 조사하여 해저퇴적물의 오염도를 평가하였다. 아울러 퇴적물 중의 Cu, Cd, Pb, Zn의 함량을 조사하여 국내기준치와 외국의 기준치와 비교 평가하였고, 농집지수를 구하여 중금속의 축척과 인위적인 영향을 추정하였다. 그 결과, COD와 AVS를 이용한 해역의 오염도는 신안 비금해역과 광양만은 I등급, 목포내만은 III등급으로 평가되었다. 중금속의 조사 결과에서는 목포내만과 광양만에서는 중간오염 상태를 보였고, 신안 비금해역은 오염되지 않은 상태를 보였다. Igeo 결과에서 2 이상으로 나타난 곳은 목포내만과 광양만에서 Cu와 Cd이 오염된 상태를 보였다. 이와 같은 결과로부터 인위적인 오염원이 없는 해역의 경우에는 일반항목으로 퇴적물의 오염도를 평가할 수 있겠지만 산업시설이 밀집된 인위적인 영향이 큰 해역의 경우에는 퇴적물의 일반항목외 중금속을 이용한 해저 퇴적물의
비선호시설은 도시생활을 영위해 나감에 있어 반드시 필요한 시설물임에도 불구하고 시설물 입지시마다 갈등이 제기되고 있다. 이렇게 나타나는 지방정부와 주민간의 입지갈등을 최소화하기 위해서 주민들과의 입지갈등이 심각하게 제기되는 원자력발전소 입지갈등사례의 실제적 집행과정을 분석하여 갈등유발요인을 찾아내고, 그에 대한 대책방안을 마련해 나가는 것이 필요하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 입지갈등사례의 분석을 통해 비선호시설입지에 보다 강하게 영향을 미치는 갈등유발요인은 무엇이며, 사업의 추진단계별인 입지선정계획입안단계, 시설공사집행단계, 시설운영·관리단계별로 제기되는 주요 갈등유발요인을 밝히고자 한다. 또한 비선호시설의 입지선정은 입지선정계획입안단계에서는 능률성보다는 민주성을 중시하며, 시설공사집행단계와 시설운영·관리단계에서는 시설의 위해성과 사고의 위험성, 시설관리에 대한 정부불신을 하위변수로 두고 있는 기술적 요인에서 제기되는 사안을 중시한다. 따라서 사례분석을 통해 경제적 보상과 기술적 안정
