About the Lab

Professor Donghun Lee's research lab specializes in advanced materials and biomedical applications, focusing on two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) for spintronic and quantum information technologies, as well as lifestyle intervention strategies for metabolic and cardiovascular health. The lab investigates spin-polarized excitons in magnetic-doped 2D semiconductors and explores the role of environmental and biochemical factors in cardiovascular disease progression. Additionally, the lab examines the therapeutic potential of natural compounds in mitigating oxidative stress and inflammation from environmental pollutants such as PM10. These interdisciplinary efforts bridge nanomaterials science, biomedicine, and public health.

While valley polarization with strong Zeeman splitting is the most prominent characteristic of two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) semiconductors under magnetic fields, enhancement of the Zeeman splitting has been demonstrated by incorporating magnetic dopants into the host materials. Unlike Fe, Mn, and Co, V is a distinctive dopant for ferromagnetic semiconducting properties at room temperature with large Zeeman shifting of band edges. Nevertheless, little known is the ex

Perspectives on deterministic control of quantum point defects by scanned probes
Donghun Lee, Jay Gupta
SJR Q1NanophotonicsOA

Abstract Control over individual point defects in solid‐state systems is becoming increasingly important, not only for current semiconductor industries but also for next generation quantum information science and technologies. To realize the potential of these defects for scalable and high‐performance quantum applications, precise placement of defects and defect clusters at the nanoscale is required, along with improved control over the nanoscale local environment to minimize decoherence. These

Journal of Obesity & Metabolic Syndrome

Particulate matter (PM) 10 refers to fine dust with a diameter of less than 10 µm and induces apoptosis and inflammatory responses through oxidative stress. Citrus junos Tanaka is a citrus fruit and contains bioactive flavonoids including naringin. In the present study, we aimed to identify the preventive effect of Citrus junos Tanaka peel extract (CPE) against PM10-induced lung injury. As a proof of concept, NCI-H460 cells were treated with CPE (800 μg/mL, 12 h) in conjunction with PM10 to exam

Investigating potential mediator between statin and coronary artery calcification
Donghun Lee, Hyung Joon Joo, Ho-Won Jung, Do‐Sun Lim
SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

Statins are mainstay anti-lipidaemic treatments for preventing cardiovascular diseases but also known to increase coronary artery calcification (CAC). However, underlying relationship between statin and CAC is still unclear. This study explored the mediating role of five statin-related biochemical factors [i.e., low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol, triglyceride, glucose, and high sensitivity C-reactive protein levels]. SJR Q1Applied Physics Letters

We demonstrate two-dimensional mapping of current flow in graphene devices by using a single-spin scanning magnetometer based on a nitrogen-vacancy defect center in diamond. We first image the stray magnetic field generated by the current and then reconstruct the current density map from the field data. We focus on the visualization of current flow around a small sized current source of ∼500 nm diameter, which works as an effective point contact. In this paper, we study two types of point-contac

SJR Q2MaterialsOA

Small amounts of glycidylisobutyl polyhedral oligomericsilsesquioxane (G-POSS) (up to 10 phr) were added into a immiscible polyamide12 (PA12)/polyolefin elastomer (POE) blend (70 wt%/30 wt%) by simple melt mixing. The effects of the G-POSS on phase morphology and mechanical properties were investigated by FE-SEM, tensile testing, Izod impact test and dynamic mechanical analysis. FE-SEM analysis revealed that domain size of the dispersed POE phase in matrix PA12 is decreased significantly by addi

SJR Q2Nanotechnology

Recent advances in nanorobotic manipulation of ferromagnetic nanowires bring new avenues for applications in the biomedical area, such as targeted drug delivery, diagnostics or localized surgery. However, probing a single nanowire and monitoring its dynamics remains a challenge since it demands high precision sensing, high-resolution imaging, and stable operations in fluidic environments. Here, we report on a novel method of imaging and sensing magnetic fields from a single ferromagnetic nanowir
