About the Lab

Professor Eun-Ae Park's research lab focuses on neonatal and pediatric health, with a primary emphasis on improving outcomes for very low birth weight and preterm infants. Key research directions include investigating sex differences in neonatal mortality and morbidity, optimizing early nutritional interventions to support growth and neurodevelopment, and exploring the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying neurodevelopmental disorders. The lab also examines clinical interventions for rare pediatric conditions such as infantile hemangioendothelioma and investigates broader health-related behavioral and psychological factors, including the impact of brand personality on consumer behavior in health and wellness contexts.

SJR Q1Scientific ReportsOA

Abstract This study aims to determine whether male sex has adverse effect on mortality and morbidities in very low birth weight infants (VLBWI) <30 weeks of gestation and to ascertain this sex effect, stratified by gestational age, adjusting for perinatal risk factors. This is a population-based study from Korean Neonatal Network for VLBWI born at 23 +0 and 29 +6 weeks of gestation between January 2013 and December 2014. The primary outcome was gestation-specific sex difference in the occurre

SJR Q2Journal of Korean Medical ScienceOA

Infantile hemangioendothelioma is a severe disease with a high mortality. It is characterized by multiple hemangioma affecting the skin and visceral organs. We report that high doses of methylprednisolone pulse therapy improved symptoms and signs of infantile hemangioendothelioma in a male neonate, and completely resolved the hepatic and cutaneous hemangioendothelioma on follow up.

SJR Q3Pediatrics International

BACKGROUND: Inadequate nutrition in very-low-birthweight (VLBW) infants is known to be associated with growth failure and poor neurological outcomes. We aimed to investigate the association of early aggressive protein and energy intakes with weight gain and 18-month neurodevelopmental outcomes in VLBW infants. METHODS: A total of 90 infants among 129 infants who survived to discharge were included and divided into two groups (early aggressive nutrition [n = 52] vs conventional nutrition [n = 38]

Shifting from Reflective Practices to Reflexivity: An Autoethnography of an L2 Teacher Educator
박은애

The purpose of this study is to explore the researcher’s experiences as a teachereducator of a TESOL program at a private university in Korea. The study wasinspired by a growing trend in postmodern approaches which seek to draw out thehidden voice of the researcher. In order to explore the dialogical engagement of theresearcher/teacher educator and the participants, the researcher adapts an autoethnographicapproach which seeks to understand the self in an ethnographic study. Furthermore, this st

Src homology 2 domain-containing protein tyrosine phosphatase 2 (SHP-2) is a cytoplasmic tyrosine phosphatase that is highly expressed in hematopoietic cells and in the CNS and exerts opposite effects on signal transduction by exerting a neuroprotective or proapoptotic effect. Several mutations of SHP-2 have been found in children with myeloproliferative disorders or malignant leukemia, and some of these can affect brain development. In the present study, we aimed to identify and functionally ch

SJR Q3Pediatrics International

BACKGROUND: A mouse model of impaired renal development was developed and the effect of retinoic acid (RA) was investigated in this animal model. METHODS: An angiogenesis inhibitor (SU1498) was injected s.c. into day 3 C57BL/6 newborn mice to create a model of arrested renal development. RA (2 mg/kg) was injected i.p. for 10 days. Morphometry and immunohistochemistry were done. RESULTS: Mice injected with SU1498 demonstrated deranged renal development in tubular structure and glomerular tuft are

The Relationship Among Brand Personality, Brand Attitude and Brand Royalty of the Coffee Shop
Eun Ae Park
Journal of Tourism and Leisure Research

This research mainly focuses on the expanding role of coffee shop from a place to simply consume coffee to a more social-cultural space, alongside the general growth in the coffee market. By setting the brand personality of coffee shop as a independent variable, brand attitude, brand attachment and brand loyalty as dependent variables, this study attempts to identify the relations between the variables as well as analyze customers’ differential preferences on brands and their moderating effects.

Preparing Korean Primary School Students for Extensive Reading: A Sociocultural Approach
박은애

This paper takes a theoretical approach to exploring a sociocultural framework to guiding primary school students to prepare for extensive reading (ER) in the future. It is difficult for most EFL children to make the transition from reading picture books to reading extensively in the target language. This may be due to the fact that ER is not a teachable skill and the underlying principles such as motivation and habit formation, which lay the foundation for success in ER, stem from home literacy

For the past decade, the survival of very low birth weight infants has increased from the advancement of neonatology. Along with the increase in the survival of the extreme low birth weight infants, preventive and therapeutic strategies for the new bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) have been a hot topic. The classic BPD of the pre-surfactant era is known to be caused by ventilator therapy, high concentration of oxygen, infection, and fibrosis. However, the incidence of new BPD is increasing even
