About the Lab

Professor Ga-Hee Ban's research lab specializes in developing advanced antimicrobial surfaces and biocontrol strategies to enhance food safety and hygiene in the food industry. The lab focuses on nanofabrication techniques—such as electrochemical etching, anodizing, and electropolishing—to create self-cleanable and anti-biofouling stainless steel and titanium surfaces that resist bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation. Additionally, the lab investigates natural antimicrobial agents, including bacteriocin-producing lactic acid bacteria like *Enterococcus lactis* FSEL1, to combat foodborne pathogens such as *E. coli* O157:H7 and *Listeria monocytogenes*. The research integrates materials science, microbiology, and food safety to address critical challenges in meat processing, sprout production, and medical implant applications.
