About the Lab
Professor Gunjeong's research lab focuses on public health and health disparities, with a strong emphasis on improving healthcare access and outcomes for vulnerable populations. Key research directions include the impact of ancillary services on HIV care engagement, behavioral patterns among HIV-positive individuals, and the role of nutrition in age-related bone health. The lab also investigates psychosocial factors in maternal health and work-related stress among healthcare professionals, particularly nurses in clinical settings.

15The advent of antiretroviral therapies in 1996 prompted an interest in the role played by ancillary services in improving access to and retention in medical care, particularly since the success of the new therapies is often contingent upon ongoing and appropriate primary medical care. Using self-reported survey data from a longitudinal representative sample of 577 HIV-positive adults in New York City, this paper explores the impact of such supportive services as drug treatment, case management,
As an ever-increasing number of people infected with HIV are living longer, healthier lives, concerns about continued transmission are growing along with an awareness of the need to develop "prevention for positives." This study of HIV-positive adults in New York City is the first examination of patterns of sexual behavior in a large, representative cohort of HIV-infected individuals followed over an extended time period. A total of 968 HIV-positive adults were interviewed every 6-12 months betw
Age-related bone loss is a major public health problem. This cross-sectional study examined the association between the dietary intake of carotenoids and bone mineral density (BMD). Data from 8022 subjects (3763 males and 4259 females) aged 30–75 years included in the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2008–2011) were analyzed. BMD was measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Intake of carotenoids was estimated using 24-h dietary recall. In multiple linear analysis, af
These results demonstrate that in the case of HAART, the therapeutic benefits of an innovative but costly medical treatment are reaching populations that traditionally have poor access to quality health care.
AIMS: To report a study of the relations of prenatal psychosocial adaptation, social support, demographic and obstetric characteristics, uncertainty, information-seeking behaviour, motherhood normalization, self-efficacy, and commitment to pregnancy. BACKGROUND: Prenatal psychosocial assessment is recommended to identify psychosocial risk factors early to prevent psychiatric morbidities of mothers and children. However, knowledge on psychosocial adaptation and its explanatory variables is inconc
This cross-sectional study used quantitative survey data collected from registered nurses (RNs) who worked as staff nurses in medium-sized (300 beds or less) Korean hospitals. Data from 290 RNs were analyzed to examine the nature and prevalence of staff nurses' work hours, overtime, breaks, and related work conditions. The results showed that staff nurses working in medium-sized Korean hospitals worked 9.6 hours a day on average and had 1.5 breaks daily, including mealtime. The average number of
Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the correlation between social support, loneliness, sleep quality, and perceived health status among community-dwelling older adults. Methods: Older adults who lived in urban and rural local communities were taken into account. Among them, 396 people participated in this study. Path analysis was conducted in order to verify the study model and its verification. SPSS WIN 18.0 and AMOS17.0 were used for analysis of collected data. Results: The results s
To the Editors: New York State has the highest number of HIV/AIDS cases in the country.1 In 2006, 1591 AIDS diagnoses in New York occurred within 1 year of HIV diagnosis, accounting for 35% of all new HIV diagnoses.2 In response to this high number of late diagnoses, the advent of rapid and accurate screening tests and a recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to routinely offer HIV testing to adults in all health care settings,3 HIV testing in New York City has expand
Purpose: This study was conducted to explore older adults' views on smart phone use and the way to obtain health information for better health management. Methods: Data were collected through individual and group interviews with 14 older adults who use the smart phone from April 15, to August 30, 2012. The data were analyzed using qualitative thematic analysis. Results: The findings were classified into seven themes: Feeling like responding to the changing of the times, entertaining like a frien
