About the Lab

Professor Gyowan Choi's research lab specializes in digital transformation and service innovation in the tourism, hospitality, and transportation industries, with a strong focus on leveraging data analytics, text mining, and behavioral modeling to understand consumer behavior and service performance. The lab investigates user adoption of emerging technologies such as context-aware services and mobile platforms, while also analyzing the impact of external shocks—like pandemics and fuel price volatility—on industry efficiency and risk. A key research direction involves applying advanced analytics, including sentiment analysis and topic modeling, to online reviews and user-generated content to quantify customer satisfaction and inform strategic decision-making. The lab further explores asset management and reliability in infrastructure systems, particularly in power and distribution networks, using data-driven methodologies.

User acceptance of context-aware services: self-efficacy, user innovativeness and perceived sensitivity on contextual pressure
Ohbyung Kwon, Kyu-Wan Choi, M. Kim
SJR Q1Behaviour and Information Technology

The aim of this paper is to empirically examine how individual characteristics affect user acceptance of context-aware services such as GPS-based telematics systems and location-based commerce, which together have become highly promising fields for mobile or ubiquitous e-commerce. To examine these individual characteristics, we applied a technology acceptance model to construct an amended model that focuses on three individual differences: self-efficacy, personal innovativeness and perceived sen

SJR Q1Tourism Geographies

Abstract Although geographical diversification is an emerging issue and has been considered a key competitive strategy in the casino industry, an examination of the effects of geographical diversification on casino firms’ risks and firm performances has been sparse. Thus, this study investigates the impact of the degree of geographical diversification on risk measured by the standard deviation of daily stock returns and firm performance measured by Tobin's q of publicly traded US casino firms. External shocks and efficiency changes in the US airline industry
SooCheong Jang, Kyu-Wan Choi, Kyuseok Lee
SJR Q1Service Industries Journal

The US airline industry has experienced severe turbulence during the recent decade. The September 11 terrorist attack (9/11) was the greatest shock at the beginning of the 2000s. Recently, the dramatic increase in fuel costs emerged as another shock to the industry. To understand the effects of these two major events, this study investigated the cross-sectional efficiency of the US airline industry and its changes using the data envelopment analysis technique. The primary findings suggest that 9

The Segmentation of Customers Dining Out: An Application of Latent Class Analysis(LCA)
The Tourism Sciences Society Of Korea, Kyu-Wan Choi, Do-Hyung Bang

The diversification of dining-out needs and consumer behavior has emerged as a key issue in marketing to segment and identify consumer groups. This study aims to segment and identify the dining-out consumer market using data from “The Consumer Behavior Survey for Food 2016” collected by the Korea Rural Economic Institute(KREI). In order to segment the dining-out market, we employed a Latent Class Analysis(LCA) selecting five categorical variables including “Expense, Motivation, Place, Frequency

A Study on Failure Rate Extraction of Distribution System Equipment considering Regional Characteristics
Kyu-Wan Choi, Hui-Seok Chai, Jong-Fil Moon
The Transactions of the Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers POA

The cost needed to managing equipment is constantly increasing because of increase of power equipment. The regulations such as PAS 55 and ISO 55000 were enacted to manage equipment assets. The advanced management methods such as real-time monitoring, condition evaluation, and health indices are avalable in generation system, transmission system, and substation transformers. However, These methods can not be applied to distribution equipment because of a lot of equipment. Therefore reliability as
