About the Lab
Professor Hong-Hoi Koo's research lab specializes in regenerative medicine and cancer biology, with a focus on mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and their immunomodulatory properties for treating immune-related disorders such as graft-versus-host disease. The lab investigates molecular mechanisms underlying MSC function, particularly the role of key enzymes like indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO) and signaling pathways such as AKT/ERK in cancer cells. We report the outcome of 236 pediatric umbilical cord blood transplantations (UCBT) performed in Korea. Given that the sources of the grafts were mostly unrelated donors (n = 226; 95.8%), only the results of unrelated UCBT were included for all statistics.
