About the Lab

Professor Hongseok Park's research lab specializes in interventional radiology and hepatobiliary surgery, focusing on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and other abdominal malignancies. The lab investigates image-guided interventions such as transarterial chemoembolization (TACE), uterine artery embolization for postpartum hemorrhage, and stent placement for malignant obstructions, with an emphasis on improving clinical outcomes and minimizing complications. Research also explores the impact of interventional procedures on underlying liver disease, particularly in HBV-related HCC, and evaluates the safety and efficacy of endovascular techniques in complex surgical scenarios.

SJR Q1Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology

BACKGROUND AND AIM: To investigate the clinical characteristics and survival outcomes of a large cohort of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients treated at a single institute in a hepatitis B virus (HBV)-endemic area. METHODS: Between 2000 and 2003, 904 patients with HCC treated at our institute were enrolled, and followed until 2005. RESULTS: The mean age of the patients was 56 years and 76.3% were HBV-positive. The 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4-year survival rates were 53.8%, 40.0%, 31.4%, and 25.7%, re

Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Are Combined CT during Arterial Portography and CT Hepatic Arteriography in Addition to Triple-Phase Helical CT All Necessary for Preoperative Evaluation?
Hyun‐Jung Jang, Jae Hoon Lim, Soon Jin Lee, Cheol Keun Park, Hong Suk Park, Young Soo
SJR Q1Radiology

The use of CTAP and CTHA, in addition to being invasive and costly, resulted in an unacceptably high false-positive rate without a substantial increase in sensitivity. Therefore, CTAP and CTHA are not recommended for preoperative evaluation of HCC; THCT alone is preferred.

BACKGROUND: Although uterine artery embolization (UAE) is a well-recognized alternative treatment for postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) with a high clinical efficacy, the reported success rate of UAE for PPH associated with placenta accreta (PA) is lower. Recently, with advances in techniques and expertise, a few studies have reported favorable results of UAE in controlling PPH in the setting of PA. PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy of UAE in the emergent management of intractable PPH associated with

SJR Q1Radiology

The authors treated 21 patients with inoperable upper gastrointestinal tract malignant obstruction from the esophagus to the duodenum by means of intubation with a flexible covered stent with fluoroscopic guidance. Stent placement was successful and relief of dysphagia was immediate in 18 (86%) patients, without serious complication. The average dysphagia score decreased from 2.6 (dysphagia to liquids) to 1.0 (dysphagia to normal solid food). Placement of a flexible covered stent provides easy,

SJR Q3Acta Radiologica

BACKGROUND: Many collateral pathways to the liver are dissected during hepatobiliary pancreatic surgery and, if the arterial bleeding is massive and a hematoma becomes larger, the adjacent portal vein can be compressed with impairment of the portal venous flow. PURPOSE: To evaluate the frequency and severity of ischemic liver injuries after hepatic artery embolization in patients with delayed postoperative arterial hemorrhage after hepatobiliary pancreatic surgery. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Eighteen
