About the Lab

Professor Hye-Soon Kim's research lab specializes in clinical and translational health informatics, focusing on the application of data mining and expert systems in healthcare. Her work spans chronic disease management—particularly type 2 diabetes mellitus—comorbidity analysis using association rule mining, and the development of decision-support tools for clinical diagnosis. The lab also investigates psychological and physiological responses in patient populations, such as anxiety and depression in middle-aged women and preoperative patients, integrating quantitative assessment with evidence-based clinical reasoning.

Hye Soon Kim, Austin M. Shin, Mi Kyung Kim, Yoon Nyun Kim
SJR Q2The Korean Journal of Internal MedicineOA

BACKGROUND/AIMS: The aim of this study was to analyze comorbidity in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) by using association rule mining (ARM). METHODS: We used data from patients who visited Keimyung University Dongsan Medical Center from 1996 to 2007. Of 411,414 total patients, T2DM was present in 20,314. The Dx Analyze Tool was developed for data cleansing and data mart construction, and to reveal associations of comorbidity. RESULTS: Eighteen associations reached threshold (suppor

The Korean Journal of Rehabilitation Nursing

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate Laughter Index, depression and anxiety in middle-aged women. Method: The data were collected from 622 middle-aged women by means of structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis by SPSS version 10. Results: The measuring of respondents' laughter index revealed they scored an average of 94.75 () of the full score 150. The measuring of respondents' depression sho

In the early neonatal period, the neonate is challenged by the loss of the placental calcium transport and manifests a quick transition, from an environment in which PTHrP plays an important role to a PTH- and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D-controlled neonatal milieu. Disturbances in mineral homeostasis are common in the neonatal period, especially in premature infants and infants who are hospitalized in an intensive care unit. In many cases these disturbances are thought to be exaggerated responses to
