About the Lab
Professor Ja Min Byun's research lab focuses on hematological malignancies, particularly multiple myeloma and acute myeloid leukemia, with an emphasis on understanding the genetic and epigenetic drivers of these diseases in Asian populations. The lab investigates clinical phenotypes, diagnostic challenges—such as pleural effusion in myeloma—and the impact of targeted therapies, including TNF-α inhibitors and novel agents like daratumumab. A key focus is on precision medicine, especially the role of IDH1/2 mutations as biomarkers and therapeutic targets in AML. The lab also explores the intersection of inflammatory bowel disease and tuberculosis risk in patients on biologic therapies, particularly in TB-endemic regions like Korea.

Here, we describe our experience with secondary neurolymphomatosis (NL) in non-Hodgkin lymphoma patients, with the emphasis on the diagnosis process. A retrospective chart review of 12 patients from 3 tertiary academic centers between January 2005 and December 2015 was conducted.
