About the Lab
Professor Jaejoon Kim's research lab specializes in interdisciplinary innovation at the intersection of construction technology, regenerative medicine, and biomedical engineering. The lab focuses on advancing sustainable construction through modular and BIM-integrated prefabrication systems, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), while also pioneering novel cellular reprogramming techniques for regenerative medicine. Key research directions include optimizing endothelial cell differentiation using transcription factor mechanisms and developing miniaturized endoscopic imaging systems for surgical applications. The lab emphasizes practical, scalable solutions with real-world impact in both healthcare and construction industries.

15Modular construction methods, where products are manufactured beforehand in a factory and then transported to the site for installation, are becoming increasingly popular for construction projects in many countries as this method facilitates the use of the advanced technologies that support sustainability in building projects. This approach requires dual factory–site process management to be carefully coordinated and the factory module manufacturing process must therefore be managed in a detaile
Although the generation of ETV2-induced endothelial cells (iECs) from human fibroblasts serves as a novel therapeutic strategy in regenerative medicine, the process is inefficient, resulting in incomplete iEC angiogenesis. Therefore, we employed chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) sequencing and identified molecular mechanisms underlying ETV2-mediated endothelial transdifferentiation to efficiently produce iECs retaining appropriate functionality in long-term culture. We revealed that the major
This study investigated defect risks in residential buildings using the Loss Distribution Approach (LDA), a method of identifying and quantifying operational risks in economic terms. Analysis was performed on 7554 defects in 48 residential buildings where defect disputes occurred between 2008 and 2017. Defects were classified into eight types: affected functionality, broken items, corrosion, detachment, incorrect installation, missing task, surface appearance, and water problems. Work types were
This work reports a microprism array (MPA) based compact stereo endoscopic camera with a single image sensor. The MPAs were monolithically fabricated by using two-step photolithography and geometry-guided resist reflow to form an appropriate prism angle for stereo image pair formation. The fabricated MPAs were transferred onto a glass substrate with a UV curable resin replica by using polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) replica molding and then successfully integrated in front of a single camera module.
Therapeutic efficacy and safety of adeno-associated virus (AAV) liver gene therapy depend on capsid choice. To predict AAV capsid performance under near-clinical conditions, we established side-by-side comparison at single-cell resolution in human livers maintained by normothermic machine perfusion. AAV-LK03 transduced hepatocytes much more efficiently and specifically than AAV5, AAV8 and AAV6, which are most commonly used clinically, and AAV-NP59, which is better at transducing human hepatocyte
Small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are part of the building construction industry. Although many effect analyses of applying building information modeling (BIM) to projects have been conducted, analyses from the perspective of SMEs are lacking. We propose a BIM-based construction of prefabricated steel framework from the perspective of SMEs. We derive the essential functions of the system from the viewpoint of SMEs and verify the qualitative effect through a case analysis of prefabricate
This work presents a simple and effective method for a wide-angle light-emitting diode module by using a single lens corrugated with micropattern arrays. Impinged onto the micropattern arrays of a curved surface, light undergoes an enhancement of the illumination angle due to omnidirectional diffraction. A hemispherical dome lens with micropattern arrays is microfabricated by a reconfigurable microtemplating and a replica molding method. Depending on the micropattern size, the experimental and s
By changing the rate of evaporation, two kinds of crystalline films composed of redox-active porous coordination networks ( 1 and 2 ) were selectively prepared on a gold-patterned substrate using a DMF solution of 2,5,8-tri(4-pyridyl)1,3-diazaphenalene and Cd(NO 3 ) 2 . We found the highly sensitive humidity sensing ability of film 1 . Single crystal structures and infrared spectroscopic analyses before and after hydration of a single crystal of 1 revealed the sensing mechanism: exchange of nitr
The performance of construction companies is closely related to the macroeconomy and is, therefore, subject to macroeconomic fluctuations. That, in some instances, can lead to their insolvency. An analysis of how macroeconomic changes affect construction companies is thus necessary. Hence, we analyzed impacts of macroeconomic fluctuations on insolvency in construction companies by establishing a vector error correction model (VECM) using macroeconomic variables. This model generates the expected
Since a construction project involves a series of activities that utilize resources to achieve its goal within a given time period, efficient resource management is a prerequisite for its success. Two major techniques of resource management are resource constrained scheduling (RCS), which focuses on limited resource availability, and resource leveling, which focuses on a smooth resource usage pattern for a fixed project completion time. Although they can successfully generate schedules that acco
