About the Lab

Professor JaeYong Choung's research lab focuses on interdisciplinary studies at the intersection of future studies, technology ethics, and biomedical engineering. The lab explores transformative technological movements such as transhumanism from historical and comparative perspectives, particularly examining societal, cultural, and ethical implications in both Western and Korean contexts. It also conducts clinical research on minimally invasive cardiac ablation techniques, including cryoballoon and radiofrequency ablation, with an emphasis on real-world outcomes and patient-centered health technology evaluation. The lab integrates qualitative future studies with quantitative clinical data analysis to address emerging challenges in health innovation and societal transformation.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Thermal energy-based catheter ablation techniques, including cryoballoon ablation (CBA) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA), are widely utilized for rhythm control in patients with atrial fibrillation. However, direct comparisons of CBA and RFA using real-world data are limited. This study aims to evaluate the short- and long-term outcomes of CBA and RFA. METHODS: A total of 4,868 patients who underwent procedures between January 2018 and July 2022 were selected from the
