About the Lab
Professor Jegyeong Ryu's research lab specializes in single-molecule biophysics and molecular mechanisms underlying chromosome organization and intracellular membrane trafficking. The lab investigates how ring-shaped SMC complexes like cohesin and condensin extrude DNA loops to shape chromatin architecture, with a focus on their ability to translocate through protein-bound DNA and large macromolecular complexes. Additionally, the lab explores the mechanochemical mechanisms of AAA+ ATPases, such as NSF, in disassembling SNARE complexes during membrane fusion. Using advanced single-molecule imaging and force spectroscopy techniques, the lab uncovers fundamental principles of biomolecular condensation, loop extrusion, and protein complex disassembly.

1This dataset contains the time-lapse imaging data collected and analyzed in "In vitro reconstitution of heterochromatin compartments reveals the spontaneous formation of tunable liquid-liquid interfaces." These movies include representative droplet fusions and heat-reversibility of chromatin compartmentalization, the quantification of which is shown in Figures 2, 3, and 4 of the manuscript. The Python scripts used to analyze and visualize this data are included in the PythonNotebooks.zip folder.
