About the Lab
Professor Jeong-eun Lee's research lab focuses on the biological and pathological impacts of nanomaterials, particularly nanoplastics, on human health and disease mechanisms. The lab investigates molecular pathways involved in cancer progression, especially osteosarcoma, with an emphasis on inflammatory mediators like COX-2 and their roles in tumor proliferation and metastasis. Additionally, the lab applies advanced molecular imaging techniques, such as FDG-PET/CT, to evaluate cancer metabolism and prognosis in gastrointestinal and biliary tract malignancies. The integration of nanotechnology, molecular oncology, and medical imaging defines the lab’s interdisciplinary approach to understanding disease mechanisms and improving diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

15The increasing prevalence of nanoplastics in our environment due to the widespread use of plastics poses potential health risks that are not yet fully understood. This study examines the physiological and neurotoxic effects of these minuscule nanoplastic particles on the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans as well as on human cells. Osteosarcoma is the most common primary bone tumor, but the pathogenesis is not well understood. AIM: We investigated the prognostic value of clinicopathological factors in patients with a distal bile duct adenocarcinoma after curative resection. The incidence of femoral head AVN was low among a prospective cohort of renal transplantation recipients at the time of 1 year after engraftment. Planar bone scintigraphy is sufficient to diagnose AVN in symptomatic patients at risk for femoral head AVN using grade I and II activities as positive criteria.
