About the Lab
Professor Jeong Woo Han's research lab specializes in oncology and long-term survivorship following childhood and breast cancer, with a strong focus on minimizing treatment-related late effects and improving quality of life. The lab investigates surgical techniques that preserve critical anatomical structures—such as arm lymph nodes in breast cancer patients—while reducing complications like lymphedema. It also explores late effects in childhood cancer survivors, including bone mineral density loss and endocrine dysfunction, and evaluates innovative treatment strategies such as alternating intravenous and intra-arterial chemotherapy in retinoblastoma to enhance eye salvage and reduce metastatic risk. 15Arm node preserving was possible in all breast cancer patients with identifiable arm nodes, during ALND or SLNB, except for those with high surgical N stage, and lymphedema did not develop in patients with arm node preserving surgery.
Wernicke's encephalopathy is an acute neurolopsychiatric syndrome caused by thiamine deficiency, and classically presents with the triad of opthalmopathy, ataxia and altered mentality.
