About the Lab
Professor Jeong Yee's research lab specializes in pharmacogenomics and environmental health, focusing on the genetic and environmental factors influencing drug response and disease outcomes. The lab conducts systematic reviews and meta-analyses to evaluate the impact of genetic polymorphisms—such as those in CYP3A5, POR, NAT2, and ephedrine metabolism—on drug efficacy and adverse effects. It also investigates the health impacts of environmental exposures, including air pollution and infectious diseases like COVID-19, particularly in vulnerable populations such as pregnant women and transplant recipients. The lab’s work bridges clinical pharmacology, epidemiology, and public health through rigorous evidence synthesis.

15This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on pregnant women. We searched for qualified studies in PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science. The clinical characteristics of pregnant women with COVID-19 and their infants were reported as means and proportions with 95% confidence interval. Eleven studies involving with 9032 pregnant women with COVID-19 and 338 infants were included in the meta-analysis. Pregnant women with COVID-19 have relatively mild symptoms. Ho
Abstract Background Air pollution is a major issue that poses a health threat worldwide. Although several studies investigated the adverse effects of air pollution on various diseases, few have directly demonstrated the effects on pneumonia. Therefore, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis on the associations between short-term exposure of air pollutants and hospital admission or emergency room (ER) visit for pneumonia. Methods A literature search was performed using PubMed, Embase,
Ephedrine, the main active ingredient of mahuang, may lead to weight loss; however, it can also induce cardiovascular side effects. As ephedrine use remains controversial, this study aimed to systematically review previous studies on ephedrine-containing products and perform meta-analysis of the existing evidence on weight, blood pressure (BP), heart rate, and lipid change effects of ephedrine-containing products. We searched for placebo-controlled randomized studies in PubMed, Web of Science, a
There are conflicting results regarding the effect of the P450 oxidoreductase (POR) *28 genotype on the tacrolimus (TAC) pharmacokinetics (PKs) during the early post-transplantation period in adult renal transplant recipients. Thus, we characterized the impact of POR*28 on TAC PKs. We conducted a systematic review on the association between POR*28 and PKs of TAC in adult renal transplant recipients. Structured searches were conducted using PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase. TAC standardized tro
N-acetyltransferase 2 (NAT2) acetylator status can be classified into three groups depending on the number of rapid alleles (e.g., NAT2*4): rapid, intermediate, and slow acetylators. Such acetylator status may influence the occurrence of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) during sulfasalazine treatment. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the association between NAT2 acetylator status and ADRs of sulfasalazine. We searched for qualified studies in PubMed, Web of Science, Embase
Purpose: Cytochrome P450 (CYP) is involved in the metabolism of statins; CYP3A5 is the main enzyme responsible for lipophilic statin metabolism. However, the evidence of the association between CYP3A5*3 polymorphism and the risk of statin-induced adverse events remains unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the relationship between the CYP3A5*3 polymorphism and the risk of statin-induced adverse events. Methods: The PubMed, Web of Sci
Vancomycin-associated acute kidney injury (AKI) remains a major challenge for patients and clinicians. This study aimed to construct a risk scoring system for vancomycin-associated AKI. We retrospectively reviewed medical records of patients who underwent therapeutic drug monitoring for vancomycin from June 2018 to July 2019. We selected possible risk factors for AKI by univariate and multivariable logistic regression analyses and developed a scoring system for vancomycin-associated AKI. Machine
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to investigate the association between proton pump inhibitor (PPI) use and risk of sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) or tinnitus in patients with type 2 diabetes using hospital- and population-based data. METHODS: For the case-control study using the Asan Biomedical Research Environment database, the characteristics between cases and sex-, age- and index-year-matched controls were compared by the chi-squared test. Conditional logistic regression was used to estimate
Abstract This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on pregnant women. We searched for qualified studies in PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science. The clinical characteristics of pregnant women with COVID-19 and their infants were reported as means and proportions with 95% confidence interval (CI). Nine studies involving with 93 pregnant women with COVID-19 and 103 infants were included in the meta-analysis. Pregnant women with COVID-19 have relatively mild sy
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of JAK inhibitors in patients with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis by performing a systematic review and meta-analysis using data from studies in real-world settings. DESIGN: statistics. A random-effects model (DerSimonian-Laird method) was applied to consider the heterogeneity within and between studies and to give a more conservative estimate. The study quality assessment tools developed by the National Heart, Lu
Introduction: Dupilumab is the first biological treatment for atopic dermatitis (AD). Dupilumab-associated ocular surface disease (DAOSD) is one of the most commonly reported side effects in patients with AD during dupilumab treatment. This study aimed to identify risk factors for DAOSD in a real-world setting and construct a risk-scoring system for predicting DAOSD risk. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted for dupilumab-treated adult patients with AD between April 2019 and September
This study aimed to assess the research on medical Artificial intelligence (AI) related to sex/gender and explore global research trends over the past 20 years. We searched the Web of Science (WoS) for gender-related medical AI publications from 2001 to 2020. We extracted the bibliometric data and calculated the annual growth of publications, Specialization Index, and Category Normalized Citation Impact. We also analyzed the publication distributions by institution, author, WoS subject category,
CONTEXT: Although metformin is the first-line treatment for type 2 diabetes, the blood sugar-lowering effect of metformin varies among populations. SLC47A1 plays an important role in metformin pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. OBJECTIVE: We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the association between SLC47A1 rs2289669 (G > A) and the metformin response in drug-naive patients with type 2 diabetes. METHODS: Studies published until January 27, 2022, were retrieved fro
