About the Lab
Professor Ji-eun Kim's research lab specializes in consumer behavior, luxury brand management, and design thinking, with a strong emphasis on understanding human–computer interaction, customer relationships in luxury markets, and the psychological and perceptual drivers of consumer loyalty. The lab explores how individuals perceive value, make decisions, and form emotional connections with brands, particularly in high-end and service-oriented contexts. It also investigates the role of personal relationships, cultural adaptation, and cognitive processes in shaping consumer behavior and design innovation. The research integrates qualitative and quantitative methods, including surveys, focus groups, and experimental designs, to develop practical tools for brand assessment and consumer insight.

15The concept of "Design Thinking" opens up debate regarding the prevalent human–computer interaction design practice. This article focuses specifically on the cognitive processes of designers during their early design activities. Two groups of designers—experts and novices—were asked to develop a fictitious vacuum cleaner. We then examined the different ways in which these groups manage their design thinking processes and how the groups choose design concepts. The empirical study revealed that ex
Abstract Among the diverse strategies that businesses use to maximize sales, the customer-salesperson relationship as an aspect of relationship marketing has been reported as one of the most critical (O’Malley and Tynan, 1998 O’Malley, L. and Tynan, C. 1998. “Concept, metaphor or reality?: The prognosis for consumer-organizational relationships”. Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate what values luxury customers may seek to fulfill during their interaction with salespersons and how perceived value fulfillment may impact salesperson loyalty and store loyalty. The paper also examines the moderating effect of the degree of friendship with a salesperson. Design/methodology/approach – The authors conducted a survey using a close-ended questionnaire. In total, 22 luxury fashion brand stores located in eight of the largest depar
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to improve the original Brand Luxury Index (BLI) developed by Vigneron and Johnson to provide a practical tool for assessing consumer’s perception of the luxurious of a brand. Design/methodology/approach – The original BLI was revised through three stages: an initial scale-item generation employing a qualitative method (i.e. focus group interviews), scale purification process using statistical techniques (i.e. exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory fa
The purpose of this study was to investigate how compression garments, applied after eccentric exercise, can affect delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and inflammatory markers. Sixteen healthy male university students enrolled in this study and were randomly assigned to either the compression garment group (CG, n=8) or control group (CON, n=8). All participants performed two sets of eccentric exercise using elbow flexor with 25 repetitions per set on a modified preacher curl machine. Maximal i
The purpose of this study was to investigate dietary behaviors and nutritional knowledge among immigrant women in multicultural families. In addition, this study reveals a necessity for nutrition education, which is apparent to both immigrant women living in multicultural families as well as nutrition education experts. The survey was conducted with 30 immigrant women within multicultural families in Seoul. The dietary behaviors of the women were significantly different by their period of reside
The TRENDS European project aimed at developing an image and text retrieval engine in order to support the activity of the designers in the early stages of their design process [TRENS 2007]. The study of the designers' activity has led us to the production of an image database in which designers will find inspirational material. A content-based image search engine has been elaborated, starting from recommendations taken from the methodology employed by the designers in their activity, to end wit
The Social Internet of Things is a new paradigm that merges the Internet of Things with Social Networks. We propose a paradigm for how to model interactions between devices and humans, and among devices themselves to support sharable value-added applications throughout the device life cycle (e.g., Configuration, operation, preventive diagnosis), as well as to achieve common goals and recommendations. To realize this paradigm we propose a novel architecture and implementation to enable new Intern
The study aims to investigate the nexus of between role identity, self-efficacy, feeling of energy, and employee creativity in the hotel industry of Korea. The employees' innovative behaviors like creativity have been many researchers' interest for decades in the hotel industry. The hypotheses depicting the relationship among the variables have been proposed based on a review of existing literature. The number of 215 cases was used for final analysis and the results were explained through struct
This paper shows how focus prosody of South Kyungsang Korean interacts with the prosodic structure of the dialect. Based on the prosodic structure defined by intonation, it is claimed that the domain of lexical pitch accent assignment is a Prosodic Word, but the prosodic domain of focus, or the realization of focus prominence, is an Accentual Phrase. This model can explain the phenomenon of mismatch between the domain of semantic focus and the domain of accent/prosodic prominence.
