About the Lab

Professor Jieun Choi's research lab focuses on the role of neuroinflammation and immune mechanisms in pediatric neurological disorders, particularly epilepsy and central nervous system (CNS) autoimmune diseases. The lab investigates inflammatory biomarkers, including cytokines and α-synuclein, in serum and exosomes to understand their correlation with neurodegeneration and disease severity. A key research direction involves exploring the pathogenic mechanisms of intractable childhood epilepsy, febrile seizures, and post-infectious neuroinflammatory conditions, with translational emphasis on identifying noninvasive biomarkers and evaluating anti-inflammatory therapies. The lab also examines the impact of emerging viral variants, such as SARS-CoV-2, on pediatric neurological outcomes.
