About the Lab
Professor Jimin Shim's research lab specializes in agricultural and environmental economics, with a focus on food consumption behavior, agricultural policy, and sustainable resource management. The lab investigates how demographic changes, climate change, and technological adoption—particularly in ICT and precision farming—affect agricultural production, food system resilience, and rural land use. It also develops advanced data-driven methods, including econometric modeling, machine learning, and LiDAR-based semantic segmentation, to address challenges in food demand forecasting, reservoir safety, and land use optimization.

분석을 위해 신축적인 소비행위를 허용하는 EASI(Exact Affine Stone Index) 수요체계를 추정하였다.
In order to resolve the rice excess supply problem in Korea the government promotes adopting a newly developed floury rice variety which is more suitable for processed rice foods. Despite the conversion subsidy being provided by the government, producers are very much concerned about the uncertainties of the new variety in terms of productivity and future price. We conducted a dichotomous-choice format survey with 200 respondents and derived their willingness to adopt prices. Although the additi
As climate change intensifies extreme rainfall events, the risk of dam breaches in aging agricultural reservoirs is increasing. In Korea, Emergency ActionPlan (EAP) is typically initiated using one-dimensional models s uch as DAMBRK, followed by h igh-resolution s imulations f or detailed analysis. Thisstudy proposes a method for predicting reservoir outflow hydrographs by integrating a Dynamic Time Warping–K-Nearest Neighbors (DTW-KNN)algorithm with reservoir outflow hydrographs generated by DA
This study examines the effects of adopting Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in livestock farm management on farm sales revenue. Using the 2020 Census of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, a nationally representative data set constructed by Statistics Korea, this study focuses on a sample of 9,020 livestock farms in South Korea. We employ Propensity Score Matching (PSM) methods to address the potential selection bias between 2,076 farms that used ICT for livestock farm managemen
This study addresses the challenge of severe class imbalance in semantic segmentation of rural watershed point clouds. Due to the dominance of a fewclasses and the scarcity of minority classes, segmentation performance can degrade significantly. To mitigate this issue, we investigated loss functionstrategies based on class weighting and focal loss using the Point Transformer V3 architecture. The dataset, collected via LiDAR from SanyangReservoir watershed in Icheon, South Korea, was labeled into
This study examines the determinants of crop selection on Korean farms using large-scale census microdata from the Census of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries 2020. It empirically identifies the effects of climate conditions, individual farm characteristics, and regional socio- economic and geographic factors on crop selection. A quasi-maximum likelihood (QML) method is applied to multivariate fractional acreage share data. When applying two mid-term climate scenarios from the IPCC to the est
