A nomogram predicting malignancy in patients with BD-IPMN was constructed using a logistic regression model. This nomogram may be useful in identifying patients at risk of malignancy and for selecting optimal treatment methods. The nomogram is freely available at http://statgen.snu.ac.kr/software/nomogramIPMN.

Hyung Geun Lee, Dong Do You, Kwang Yeol Paik, Jin Seok Heo, Seong‐Ho Choi, Dong Wook Choi
SJR Q1World Journal of Surgery

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to review the clinical features of primary duodenal adenocarcinoma (PDA) patients and to identify factors that influence survival. The natural history of PDA and the factors that affect patient outcome remain poorly defined. METHODS: The authors reviewed the medical records of 53 patients treated for PDA from January 1995 to May 2007. RESULTS: Altogether, 28 of the 53 patients (resectability 52.8%) underwent curative resection and 25 (47.2%) surgical palliat

BACKGROUND: KRAS mutations are common in colorectal cancer (CRC). The role of KRAS mutation status as a prognostic factor remains controversial, and most large population-based cohorts usually consist of patients with non-metastatic CRC. We evaluated the impact of KRAS mutations on the time to recurrence (TTR) and overall survival (OS) in patients with metastatic CRC who underwent curative surgery with perioperative chemotherapy. METHODS: Patients who underwent curative resection for primary and

SJR Q1International Journal of SurgeryOA

This is the first artificial-intelligence study with multi-center registry data to predict disease-free survival after the surgery of pancreatic cancer. The findings of this methodological study demonstrate that artificial intelligence can provide a valuable decision-support system for treating patients undergoing surgery for pancreatic cancer. However, at present, further studies are needed to demonstrate the actual benefit of applying machine learning algorithms in clinical practice.

SJR Q1Journal of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Sciences

BACKGROUND: The present study aimed to determine the optimal timing of pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) following preoperative biliary drainage (PBD) with consideration of postoperative morbidity and survival. METHODS: Between January 2007 and December 2015, consecutive 1,568 patients underwent PD at a single institution. Their data were reviewed retrospectively. RESULTS: Of all, 831 patients underwent PBD. The mean duration between drainage and surgery was 16.9 days. Regarding postoperative outcome

SJR Q1Journal of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Sciences

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is regarded as incurable, with a limited survival rate after curative resection. The aim of this study was to explore long-term survival and late recurrence of PDAC after surgery. METHODS: Medical data of 859 patients who underwent resection between 1995 and 2014 were retrospectively examined. The clinicopathological features of the 5-year recurrence-free survivors and the patients with recurrent disease after 5 years were investigated

SJR Q1Journal of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Sciences

BACKGROUND: The nodal stage of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is revised in the AJCC 8th edition. Studies on the prognosis of PDAC according to lymph node metastasis (LNM) are still ongoing. We attempted to find the patterns of nodal involvement and to reveal its clinical significance to overall survival (OS). METHODS: We analyzed 585 patients who received pancreatic head cancer surgery diagnosed as PDAC from January 2007 to December 2016. Patients were classified into three groups: Gro

Several studies have reported short-term results for post-cholecystectomy symptoms and quality of life (QoL). However, reports on long-term results are still limited. This study aimed to identify risk factors affecting short- and long-term patient-reported outcome (PRO) following laparoscopic cholecystectomy. From 2016 to 2017, a total of 476 patients from 5 institutions were enrolled. PRO was examined using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) pain score and the Gastrointestinal (GI) QoL Index questio

Given the rare incidence of pancreatic acinar cell carcinoma (PACC), its post-resection clinical outcomes remain unclear. Treatment strategies for PACC have relied on those of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). The present study retrospectively investigated clinicopathologic characteristics of resected PACC registered in the Korea Tumor Registry System Biliary Pancreas database. Among 59 patients with a mean age of 59.2 years and a male predominance (83.1%), 43, 5, 7, and 4 had pure PACC,
