About the Lab
Professor Jin Yong-Xun Kim's research lab focuses on host-microbe interactions, particularly the mechanisms by which probiotic bacteria modulate host immunity and health. The lab investigates the functional properties of lactic acid bacteria, including their probiotic potential, biofilm formation, and roles in infection resistance and host defense. A central theme is the molecular regulation of bacterial persistence and virulence through toxin-antitoxin systems and RNase-mediated gene regulation. The lab also explores the impact of microbial components—such as exosomes from bovine colostrum—on host cell physiology, especially in bone metabolism and intestinal barrier function.

15A total of 22 Lactobacillus strains, which were isolated from infant feces were evaluated for their probiotic potential along with resistance to low pH and bile salts.
