About the Lab
Professor Jinshil Kim's research lab focuses on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in foodborne pathogens, particularly in retail poultry and food animals, with an emphasis on the molecular mechanisms of resistance, transmission dynamics, and One Health implications. The lab investigates the role of gut microbiota in colonization resistance, the emergence and spread of multidrug-resistant (MDR) and pan-drug-resistant (PDR) bacteria such as ESBL- and mcr-1-positive E. coli, and the potential of phage therapy as a biocontrol strategy. Additionally, the lab explores host-pathogen interactions and communication models in end-of-life care, reflecting a multidisciplinary approach integrating microbiology, genomics, and health systems research.

Human infections with Campylobacter are primarily associated with the consumption of contaminated poultry meat.
